96 Camry V6 LE questions

I have a 96 Camry V6 LE, and I want a fairly fast yet comfortable cruiser. TRD made a supercharger for the 97-00 Camry V6, but mine is just a year too old. Is there any chance I could bolt the supercharger onto my Camry V6 LE without running into engine compartment space or ECU problems?

If that would be too much hassle, there is another option. My sister needs a learning car for a few months when she gets her license. I could give her my 96 Camry V6 LE, and buy a 97-00 Camry with a V6 (I could get a 5-speed manual that way too, which I would much rather have than a 4-speed automatic). Which years did the V6 come with a 5-speed manual, either standard feature or as an option, and on which trim level(s)?

Yet another option is to buy a 4-cylinder Camry and turbocharge it. 4-cylinder Camrys are much easier to find, especially with a 5-speed manual. Are there any decent turbo kits for the 4-cylinder Camrys, or even the 6-cylinder Camrys for that matter?

Thanks in advance

They were available from 97-01. In ce and le form. Ive never seen an xle but maybe?

Heres a nice one in orange county http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...or=&cardist=37

Putting a supercharger on yours isn't impossible. Just not as easily done as a gen 4-4.5

Also you might be interested in a solara v6 manual. Ryan (Flipside909) is selling his.

I wasn't aware the Solara came with V6 and manual tranny...aren't they costlier than the regular Camry sedans, though? Also, it would be nice to have 4 doors, both for practicality and for the sleeper effect

There's also a good supercharger kit for the 4-cyl Camrys, made by RIPP MODS.

Nice link. Still, it seems easier to supercharge a 97-01, and I'm probably gonna leave my current Camry here in Las Vegas with my father when I move to California in a month. That way, I'll have a car to use when I visit Vegas (which will be quite often). I'm gonna try and find a 97-01 Camry when I get to California; I'll be close to Orange County, and I'm sure there has to be some V6 Camrys with a 5-speed there.

I found this link, which shows stats on the TRD supercharger. It looks really nice, and the fact that it is an official Toyota product is a big plus for me. So now, I need to find a 97-00 Camry or 99-00 Solara with a V6 in the SoCal area...that's not too hard, AutoTrader shows quite a few. The hard part will be finding one with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Not 100% sure about the Solara (isn't it it 99-01?) , but I'm pretty sure the Gen4 Camry is from 97-01.

Yeah, but on that site, it says the TRD supercharger was only made from 97-00 on the Camry and 99-00 on the Solara...go figure

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for a Camry V6 or Solara V6 with a 5-speed.
