Hey everybody
Today I had a reasonably enjoyable time at the dealer. After getting an oil change, cru zing the used lot and hitting the mechanics and painters up with my usual barrage of questions. I enquired about a topic posted by bobby ']['R][) which sparked my interest yet has gone completely unanswered over at SC3. The compatibility of the Celica and the Camry engines. More specifically my question is the compatibility of trannys, year to year model to model. Most specifically, shifters and lower end gears, amongst cars barring the 5S-FE engine code. The general consensus on the shifters in the shop is that they should be identical aside from the odd mounting bracket or two, but that the assembly from either should fit in the housing of the other. My attack on this subject has yielded 3 golden prizes in the form of shift assembly part and component numbers for the following cars; 1990-93 Celica GT, 1994-98 Celica GT and, the gen3 Camry 92-96. My theory is that if the part matches, the aftermarket part will fit. Enter the TRD Celica Short Shift Kit. I am still awaiting precise fitment rulings but the light is getting brighter!
As for the gears... it looks good so far but further research is needed. Hellloooo bottom end gear swaps!!
I will be completing my research, posting my results and eventually following up (long term) with a pictorial how-to on installations ASAP (work permitting...)
L8s.
Eric
- Side note - the RMM / Iceman CAI for the 93 Celica fits the gen3 5S-FE Camrys and works well!

SpectraBlueCam- Did you get an answer as to what will fit?
At this point all I have to do is make a few phone calls to figure out what year celica short shift kit to order. then I can order the kit from B&M or RMM or someone like that.

The 94-98 5SFE Celica kit will work if anyone's still interested...I kept my stock shift boot - may look better with an aftermarket one though
