Gen 4 MAF on gen 3 car

I have a gen 4 intake pipe and MAF. I want to use them on my gen 3. I installed it today and the car ran but not very well. When I started it, it idled at about 500 rpm, and it wouldn't rev unless I pressed the accelerator very slowly.
My question is: what do I need to do to get the gen 4 maf to work with the gen 3 ECU? Does anybody have the technical data for either gen MAF?

im assuming that your gen3 is a v6...i wouldnt imagine that the ecu would read it differently if the maf sensor's wiring matched the gen3

It is a V6 as stated in my sig. The wiring is the same, and the car runs, but the readings are off.
