2000 Keyless Receiver

I'm the new owner of a 2000 Camry CE with 77k and have a few questions about keyless entry. My car has power locks but no keyless and I would like to get a receiver from a junkyard and add it to my car. I do not want to buy an aftermarket system. I have searched this forum and can't find this info.

1. Can anyone tell me the location of the receiver on a 2000-2001 and what it looks like? I have seen posts on 97-99 models being under the seat, but nothing specific to the 00-01.

2. If I pull one off a wrecked car will it plug into my wiring harness or have to be hard wired?

3. Is there an actuator on the trunk somwhere to make the trunk release work with keyless remote?

4. Is there anything else I should know about doing this? I have seen posts on buying the remotes on ebay and programming them.

Thanks, Buck.

A Stock remote system on most vehicles isn't anything special. There will be solenoids required for the trunk release, you'll also be lacking the shock sensors (if they were equipped). For what it'd take, just go drop $110 at Best Buy on an aftermarket unit.

if you are not too crazy about OEM alarm, you can get a lot better aftermarket car alarm that has shock sensor, relay for trunks for a lot cheaper. when i installed my aftermarket alarm, i asked the guy to prewire the trunk power for me, and bought myself a solenoid on internet for $12.99 and installed it myself, now i have power trunk by remote, hieee

thanks for the replies. the truth is i'm really cheap and figure i can buy the receiver (and trunk solenoid) at the junkyard for $10 plus a remote for $6 on ebay and have keyless for under $20. i actually prefer not to have the alarm as i already have a kill switch.

does anyone know where the receiver is and what it looks like?
