93 camry engine replacement problems

I just had my 5SFE engine (2200cc) replaced with a 3SFE (2000cc) engine and the new engine is quite a bit nosier and there is a noticable amount of vibration. The mechanic wouldn't acknowledge the problems so I went to another mechanic to get a second opinion, and he said that this is not the right engine for this car, particularly because of a balancer that is missing form the 3SFE that the 5SFE had that was used to tune the engine to the car and help reduce these kinds of noise and vibration. Looks like I'm going to have a battle with the mechanic who replaced the engine, though I have seen rebuilt engine suppliers who list the 3SFE as a repalcement for the 5SFE. Is there any legal or or other basis on which to confront the mechanic to have this engine replaced with the 5SFE?

As long as you went to a business like mechanic and not a guy working on cars in his backyard and have a reciept then i think you guys can work something out. But, replacing engine isnt easy job so many stuff to unplug and plug...the guy might talk his way out, so try to bring a lawyer or something. Might be a tough fight, good luck!

Cool

If you:
Didn't give consent to put the motor in (Which includes knowing, but not saying anything)
and the motor didn't come in the car, go for it.

What you need to understand is that legal action normally isn't worth the trouble @ cost.

I feel sorry for you. The 3SFE is quite a bit less powerful that the 5SFE.

Sue his arse.

I did go to a business that specializes in engine replacement. What I consented to was a replacement "35,000 mile" japanese engine. I assumed it would be the same style engine and didn't specifically ask if it wasn't, but I sure didn't consent to put the smaller engine in. Is there anything out there that would give me a leg to stand on that the 3SFE engine is not recommended for this car. Does Toyota have any kind of a customer service department that would be willing to make a call on this one?

skurtz2603,

Go to Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com) and look up and print out the retail value of your Camry's model (DX, LE, or XLE). It will ask you to put a check in either 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder before getting the value. Obviously, put the check under 4 cylinder. The page that will come up will show the 4 cylinder is a 2.2 liter, not a 2.0 liter. Print the page and you will have your written proof. Good luck with the problem.
