gen 3: o2 sensor replacement q??

hello guys,

i just replaced my o2 sensor in my car because i was getting a P0135 code. after searching online i found out that this means my "bank 1, sensor 1" o2 sensor was faulty. this was also making my CEL go on. i replaced it with a bosch one i ordered online for $100(autozone wanted $150). my question is how long should it be before my CEL goes off again or do i need to get it reset. i tried disconnecting the battery but i think OBDII is too smart for this trick. its a 95 1mz-fe.

overall the sensor was not hard to replace. i completed the job in about 25 mins, even though i check the hanyes manual after every single step(im very particular.) one thing was confusing. while searching about o2 sensors on this forum there was some debate about which o2 sensor the bank 1, sensor 1 and which was bank 1, sensor 2. there are 3 o2 sensors in my v6, one is inbetween the firewall and motor(bank 1, sensor 1) and one is inbetween the radiator in motor(bank 2, sensor 1) and the last one is after the catylaic converter(bank 1, sensor 2). this is all from page 6-5 in the haynes manual.

if you go to autozone or pepboys, can't they turn it off for you for free? as a diagnostic thing?

but if not, sometimes the cel will turn off by itself in a couple of days to a week...but if it still doens't after that, then you should check again to make sure nothing's wrong...

Autozone or Pepboys will frequently do this service for free.

Often, Manufacturers make a built in reset too, however I don't know of it for the Gen3 Camry.

On some cars, it's like this:
Turn key to Acc.
Pump Gas from 0%-100% 3 times.
Turn key to Off, remove key.
Turn Key to On, crank engine.
Code Clears.

autozone did the first diagnostic test for me. they used their tool to tell me that my CEL was because of the P0135(o2 sensor code). but since i didnt buy the new part from them i dont really want to ask them to reset it... i already used them for the free diagnostic. i will wait a few days before i get too worried. ugh... i just want instant gratification for spending $100 to help the planet. its the american way. i want it to go off now!!!

I dont know if the name brand stuff makes a big difference to you but I would go with the generic stuff. Nopi sells them for the camry for about $20 and so does oxygensensor.com. The only difference is that you have to take your connectors off your old O2 sensor and connect them to the new ones. I did that for my buddy at work during my lunchbreak with no fuss whatsoever. After that, the code went away by itself.
