Where is the idle speed adjusting screw on a 94' 5S-FE

My daughter has a 1994 Camry with a 5S-FE engine. The book say's the idle speed adjustment screw is on the side of the throttle body but I'm either not seeing it or am looking at it and don't realize it. Can anyone out there describe where it is or maybe show me a picture. Any help would be very much appreciated.

On late gen 5S-FE, there is NO idle screw and no cold injector. If there is a screw, it'll be under a black rubber cap.

Its right beside the EGR valve with rubber cap removed.

Thanks for the response Pineapple but I don't see that screw on mine even though my Chiltons book says it is there through 1994. I'm wondering is the book wrong or is it possible I have a 95' model engine in this 94' Camry. I've heard of this happening in other makes of cars does anyone know of Toyota ever did this too?
Wraith you said somthing about adjusting my TPC, can I bump my idle up just a little like this? How is it done? I only want to bump it up about 100 RPM's it's at 900 now but when I hold it at 1000 it's much smoother and not as rough feeling.

I just checked my 94 5SFE and it's not there. It must have been removed by the 94 model year so people can not alter anything that effects emisions.

What about a 2VZFE? Any way to increase idle on this motor?

Since your 94' doesn't have the idle adjusting screw either, I'm thinking Chiltons has the years it was installed wrong. The book says it's there through 94'.
Has anyone tried messing with the throttle cable adjusting barrel to put maybe just a very slight bit of tension on the throttle to raise the idle just slightly, or is that not a good idea?
Wraith had said somthing earlier about adjusting the TPS. Has anyone tried that? If so, how do you do it?

jimca,

I don't think there is anything you can do to adjust the idle. I think the idle is controled by the ECU and all the inputs it get from the various sensors. I was told this by a knowledgable Toyota service director when my car was new. I complained strongly about the infamous shake at idle and they tried repalcing the motor mounts for me and when that didn't help, they just gave up telling me "there is no adjustment; it's all in the ECU." If you are trying to smooth out the car's idle a bit try cleaning the throttle body.

Mike

I have the rough idle problem and would also like to adjust my idle speed a little higher. When my car is at stop on Drive, the tach needle is one knot less than 1000rpms--maybe around 800-900rpm, not sure. My foot is on the brake and I tap the gas a little to get the needle to exactly 1000rpm and the shaking stops! So yeah, just sharing my experience. Is that a motor mount problem?

I had the same problem before so my mechanic mess around with the throttle. All though when he was adjusting the throttle he had my headlights on and the air conditioning going. Now he set the rpms to 1300 and told me after a while the car would adjust to the new changes. So setting its self back to 1000 rpms and surprisingly it’s been idling fine ever since that adjustment. Now I’m not going to recommend you doing the same thing. Your saturation might be very different from mine so don’t mess around with it unless you now what you’re doing. My only suggestion at this time would be to have a mechanic take a look under your hood.

I'm in agreement, when you hold down on the brake and lightly press on the throttle, the idle at 1000 is very smooth. I did put a bottle of good injector cleaner in (not the cheap stuff) and even though my idle is still at 900 it may be just slightly smoother. I'm sure it would be better to take it in and have the injectors cleaned but for now I'll just try adding a bottle with the next couple tanks of gas and hold off messing with the throttle.
It's interesting how their are others out there with the same problem and everyone's imput is appreciated.

Normal idle sped for camrys 4 cyl = 750 rpm when warmed up. ECU controlled. A bit of shaking? typical 5FSE....

Yeah 5sfe has known to do that this why 5sfe camry's go through so many flex pipes and engine mounts...Since the 5sfe is an ecu idle speed.. there is not much you can do...Maybe just try cleaning the TB and keep doing you injector cleaning....or see if you can take it to toyota and have them hook it up to there computers and see if they can change the idle speed for you
