3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've been doing searches and people say there are benefits and some cons for an aftermarket pulley system. some hp/torque gains. but may affect the engine's balance and/or reliability in the future? my mods are rippmods headers, injen short-ram intake (which will become a true CAI next week w/ the UPFD extension , and greddy catback exhaust system. will i see a pretty good gain in performance w/ these mods and if i add this pulley?
my question is, is this the one i should get if i decide to get one? also, for those who have one (preferably in a 5sfe), was it worth the money and labor costs? thanks
User kevganzon has/had (??) one on his 2001...his car domain page is on the tacked thread for personal webpages (up top)...his is the only 2001 listed in original post. Maybe he can help...
$212?

Thats it, I have one on my 97 Camry LE. I bought the pulley and belt used for $90 and it was well spent in my opinion. The pulley is easy to install, doesn't hurt your electrical or AC system and gives a noticable extra pull in high rpms. I wouldn't pay $212 but for $90 used its worth it.
Honestly I would pick it up. You can notice a difference and I thought Unorthodox stoped making the pulleys. I paid 185.00 for mine and I love it. So go ahead and pick it up........easy install.
^^ thanks guys. where did you get the belt 97camryman? Trying to decide on the pulley, or the grounding wire, or apexi SAFC. so many choices, so little money
How you gonna run it? CNC? Can you certify them with DOT and other safety standard? Certify againist material flaw? What happen if it fail and cause an accident, are you insured against the lawsuit?
You can make it yourself for less for sure but selling it to other is different.
BTW crank pulley without balancer is bad to the engine. Do everything else but the crank pulley.

Thank you
The truth always hurts.
I'm Project Engineer running a shop too. I make parts for myself and some for friends but selling to others is a big can of worm.
Not saying you can do that as long as you know what you're getting into
Thank you

Did it ever occur to you that I may be a Mechanical Engineer? Should have considered that before your post.
Thank you
