94 camry door locks

I have a 94 camry and having problems with the passenger door lock. It opens and closes sometimes, but when activated mainly moves a little. The actuator is working, but it seems like it does not have the power to kick the ulock/lock switch open or close. This is annoying cause now I have to reach over a lot to open the passenger side door. Do I have to replace the accuator or is it something else.

Also from the passenger door I can unlock all the doors from the outside, but not lock all the doors. Is this a factory thing or is something screwes up. From the driver side I can unlock and lock all the doors.

Please help. Mainly the door lock problem. I have been told that the acctuator should be changed, but I don't want to dish out a couple of hundred bucks for it. If it is does anyone know where to pick one up for cheap.

I have the same problem but with my driver door. I can unlock all the doors, but I cant lock them. I remember it used to do both when I bought the car. All I know about that is to fix it, they have to change the lock itself. I dont know if this is the actual solution but thats what I was told at the dealership.

If you pull up and push down on the pass side lock knob, Is it tight ??

You should be able to lock and unlock from both sides using the button or the key cylinders in the doors.

the lock/unlock knob is not tight. Its the same "tightness" on the other three doors. Completely off the subject, you wouldn't know how to adjust the emergency brake would you.

If you use the search button for the emergency brake, you will find the answers your looking for.

My car does this sometimes also. I usually turn the car on and then off, and it fies itself...

i've had the exact same problem. Everytime i think about it getting fixed though, it magically begins working again. Dunno what the problem is, seems to phase in and out of working and not.

heres what it is .....I had the same prob...I cleaned my connections as best as possible...used di-electric grease to insulate the connectors....wire brushed the poo outta the grounds till they were sparkling....srayed circuit board cleaner in the actuator.....alll in abot 25 mins per door (I have a 2dr so it was easy)
whichever step fixxed it ...iddon but she werks sweet now.

as for the ker some camry';s came with a VAlet key and therefore will only start the car and unlock the doors it will not lock the doors or trunk or glove box...try that to check

Sounds like this is a chronic problem with Toyotas Mine 97 LE 4 door
1) double key action rarely opens all doors but sometimes OK
2) door button rarely opens all doors but more often than double key action
3) more effective when engine running & more voltage available
I suspect you are on the right track for my fix
Quest'n-- Are all the connections you cleaned at the actuators or some elsewhere --like at the door buttons? & ?

Editing to bring up in line up for attention to question above

Finally got around to looking into the problem
I will post digital pictures later
Just disassembled the control board/switch assembly at the drivers side door & sprayed with WD40 & lubed with Lithium grease for corrosion protection. It WORKS! So I did same thing at the passenger door
I would have gone further & cleaned contacts at the door locks but could not get the panel off! Seems the lock rod from the button on inside panel needs to be disconnected somehow

I actually found my problem(s) a while back

hope this helps anyone with ghosts in there car.

1. the lock/unlike wire came loose from its contact on the acctuator housing. This is why I could unlock, but not lock the door. It's s simple fix. get a soldering iron and resolder. It's just a pain to take everything apart.

2. My motor in the acctuator housing went bad. This is not a peice you can buy from the dealer, but can purchase it from an electronic parts store. The motor is similiar to one's found in many motorized kid's toys out on the market. You will have to take the acctuator housing apart to get to the motor. You will also have to remove the drive gear from the motor. If you have a propane torch you can melt the glue used to hold it together and then slide it off. You will then have to glue/weld the gear to the new motor. You will then have to solder the wires to the new motor and put it all back together. The motor cost me $1.00. May rund you upt to $2.00. Beats $450 the dealer was going to charge me.

Found a message re reoving door lock / panel Seems You pry the cover away (up & down) from the hinge "tits" at the pivot point of the swinging buttons . Now I can look at additional cleaning & new better door speakers!
