Question Help me with correct belt size- underdrive crank pulley for 5SFE

I ordered the unorthodox underdrive crank pulley for my 5SFE camry last friday. I should get it early this week. I downloaded the instructions and am kinda confused as to which new belts I need.

I know my camry has 1 belt that drives both the alternator and A/C. here are what the instructions say:

New Belt Sizes (The belt sizes used may vary slightly. We recommend the use of Gates Brand belts, belt sizing varies slightly among belt manufacturers)
1. • Alternator and A/C Belt– Use Gates K050425 (43 1/8” or 1095MM), alternate belt size use Gates K050415 (42” or 1065MM)
2. • Alternator w/o A/C Belt – 2.0L Use Gates K050390 (39 5/8” or 1005MM) / 2.2L Use Gates K050380 (38.75” or 985MM)
3. • Power Steering Belt – Use Gates K030290 (29 5/8” or 750MM)

Since my is Alternator and A/C belt, I can skip #2. I went to autozone and got the Gates K050425 (43 1/8") and the power steering belt (K030290).

My question is, do I need both belts mentioned in #1 above? it seems rather confusing as to which belt I need from #1...both the K050425 and K050415 or just one of them? and if it's just one, which one?

If I need both belts in #1, then I have to go back and have autozone order the second one (K050415)..they don't have any in stock.

I'm getting the crank pulley installed this coming saturday so I would like to get the belts beforehand. any help would be great.

I have a set of unorthodox pulleys installed too. you just need one of those belts and the power steering belt. I don't know which one though. i would think the 1st one mentioned would be the prefered one. there's only a little over an inch difference between them.but it could be the difference between tight belt or not..The guys at unorthodox are pretty cool and helpful.i've bought a few things from them.maybe give them a call... http://members.cardomain.com/mr2bad

I have the same pulley. I used the Gates K050425 (43 1/8” or 1095MM). The instructions tell you to use that or if you can't get that brand use Gates K050415 (42” or 1065MM)
Then you need a new power steering belt. I used Gates K030290 (29 5/8” or 750MM) You only need one belt from #1 it just gives you two options that will both work if you cannot get one of the belts. Since the belt tension is adjustable you can use either belt its just one is a tad bit longer than the other. A few tips: brace the breaker bar with socket against the ground with the car jacked up and just turn the key for a second to loosen the bolt holding the pulley in. Then carefully pull it off. Slide the new pulley on and brace the flywheel by removing the two bolts holding the starter in and pulling it out. Then stick a big flathead screwdriver in and jam it against the teeth. Have a friend tighten the bolt then. Make sure the power steering belt is good and tight! Mine slipped at first. Thats all there is to it!!

I installed them on my'01 MR2 Spyder. it took several days of reg. and highway driving for the VVTi computer to adapt. but I could feel the difference then.more power gets to the ground and reving up a little quicker. I added an Unorthodox flywheel and windowed kevlar clutch to that and theres quite a bit of difference now.

Unorthodox Racing is the name of the company that makes the pulley(s). By reducing the weight of rotational mass at the crank, more power is delivered to the wheels.you don't make more power with that you just free it up to get it to the ground.your engine will rev up alot quicker too. it's also easier on your crankshaft not to have to spin all that weight.giving longer journal bearing life. it translates to approximately 2.7 hp/lb freed up to the wheels. my stock crank pulley weighed 3 lbs. the lightened pulley weighs 8 oz.! my stock flywheel weighed 15lbs, the lightened one weighs 8lbs. thats 10.5 lbs off my crank x2.7=28.35hp released to the ground. of course these figures are approx. but fairly close

cool. I figured it would take 5-7 days of regular driving for the ECU to recalibrate w/ the crank pulley. it's all good...i drive like 1 hr to work everyday mostly freeway.

oops forgot to respond to your question. i think it is best to replace the belts. since the crank pulley is a different size than the OEM pulley, naturally you would think that new belts are needed too. it's pretty cheap...the A/C and alternator belt (1 belt) was $13.99 at autozone, and power steering belt was $5.99

Don't these pulleys mess with the harmonic balancing of the car?

lightened pulley's and flywheels are a great and simple mod that reaps worthwhile, noticeable performance for the money.
