Starter Problems 92 Camry 4cyl

I start the car ok. When I shut it off after driving, it wont start up again. It has to sit for a while, then when I get back to it and turn the key, it'll start up fine. I'm turning the key and nothing, all the start up lights go on, its just when I turn the key all the way to start the car, nothing happens. Should I replace starter?

There is a sensor that tells the car that it is in park. If it wears out then the car may not start yet all the lights and radio still work. I say this because my 91 did the same thing and that is what the problem ended up being. I could move the shifter thru from park to drive and back and sometimes that would fix it. It ended up driving me crazy and I replaced it. It was in my console under the shifter. If you have an automatic. It was actually inexpensive to replace. If it is a manual then I would have the starter checked.

Nice ride in the sig though

Thanks for the info. Actually, I tried switching from Park to Neutral and it acted the same way. But I'll check out the sensors to be safe.

Where do I locate the sensors??

Check ignition system, wires, plugs, cap, rotor and try cleaning out the throttle body as well. Its a minor problem, nothing big.

Wires, plus, rotors, cap and distributor was replaced in early summer. I even cleaned out the throttle body in the summer when I put a new intake pipe in.

If it is a stall warm and you have to wait 5 min to restart, or if you letit idle and stalls, ther is a good chance that you have the Engine Coolant Temp sensor mulfunctioning and sending the wrong signal to the computer. Serach this site for ECT or coolant temp sensor..

I tend to feel a slight jerk when I let off the gas when on the freeway as well. I never noticed it before.. It's as if the overdrive is off and I'm going 50+, but the overdrive is actually on and exhibiting the same behavior. Eh I dunno..perhaps the car is just old. It was made 1/1995 so it's officially ten years old
