just test drove 94 camry

i went to this honda dealership to check out this 94 v6 camry. I'm not sure how a oil leak really looks like but from what i saw i've seen a crap load of oil dripping down to the headers it didn't look pretty. Would that be signs of a oil leak or a valve cover blown?

Also this car felt heavy and slow. Compared to my 4 banger it was slow. Not sure why. Its just poor in accerlation which leads me to assume about the oil leak / blown valve cover gasket.

I never driven a v6 before but from everryones reviews it should be freaking quicker then my camry on pick up. 94 Le v6 for $5000. Isn't worth it to me if its not completely mint. Right ?

I'm in the market for the 1mz engine in a car. So what are the key points to look at. I looked for leaks under the car and in the engine bay. I noticed that the obvious leak under the headers was the serious one. Is that common ? What else are common things that go bad. aside from the sludging.

How many miles are on the car?

I have a 94' V6 XLE and I'm located in the south suburbs. There is some valve cover leaking but not as bad as you have described.

Maybe I can go look at the car as well?

$5000 sounds like a good deal if the car is in good shape. These Toyota's will last for a long time.

As for 6 vs. 4, the 6 is a little quicker but not quicker.

milage was a 86,7xx if i remember correctly. I've already decided to say no to the car. Since there was more issues. hood didn't fit flush in the car. Exhaust was loud. Check engine light. There was more good then bad. Plus that car just felt so freaking fat.

I'm currently looking into Some ES300's for $6000 with 100k. Its like right up on Ciecero and Fullerton if you know where that is.

I would've passed on it as well. How do they expect to sell a car that has a loud exhaust that needs repair and with it's check engine light on?

Supposely they have another buyer and its between me and him " supposely" he tried to cover it up with paper and saying it was due to the tail light since that was out as well. . i was going to tear him a new one. cause i had a tail light out in my camry at the moment and i wanted to show him but nah.

So yea on to some Es300. just not feeling the 100k. Cause with 100k you really have no clue what your getting into. what the old owner did and everything

Cicero and Fullerton, isn't that on the northwest side? I'm not too familiar with that area, I'm from the south suburbs. What's the name of that shifty dealership? I know I'll never go there!

I hope the other guy doesn't bite on it because he'd be a sucker to do so.

As for the 100K mark, I wouldn't necessarily be pessimistic about that. We're talking about high quality cars here. I wouldn't blink at 100K for these vehicles. My personal standard for them is 200K.

That's weird that they would sell a car with the CEL on, let alone accept a car with it as a trade-in. I went to a dealership with a friend when she was car shopping and the guy said they don't take any cars with the CEL on.

3rd Generation Leaky v-6

I have a 94 v-6 that has 190k on it. At about 90k my oil pump went out and I siezed it up. It was re-built on a 99 solara block that had 39k on it. So in total I would say that I have about 140 thousand on my engine. I have a very few minute leaks. I never have to add oil b/t changes at 3k mi. and I never have any drips on the garage floor. I'm no expert for sure, but IMHO, I would say that the engine in the one Camry has been ragged out. Mine had 80k on it when I bought it and went out at 90k. So I agree that 100k is somewhat of a gamble. Try to drive ot for a half hour or so if you can get away with that. Then give the engine your best sight and smell test. You may come out pretty good.
