noise between 1st & 2nd gear, gen3 V6 5speed

Hi, The problem is when i pass from 1st gear to 2nd i feel a « grinding » noise. I’m wonder if it’s my synchronizers or my transmission gear or if i only need to change my transmission oil? There’s a lot of pieces like the clucth, pressure plate etc. but i don’t think the clutch is the problem because between the 3rd & 4th it’s very smouth. Thanks for your help. 92 V6 LE 5 Speeds.

Sounds like your synchromesh is failing. If you change gears slowly allowing your RPMs to drop between gears does it still grind? I wouldn't worry much about it. The synchro on my corolla between 2nd & 3rd has sucked for about 200k km. It makes a crunch but I don't care, repairing it is very expensive and if it ain't totally broke I'm not going to fix it.

no it does'nt grind if i allow the rpm to slow a litte bit, But repairing this is how much expensive? Because i only have 118K so i'd like to repair it.

Repairs to a manual tranny aren't too outrageous...though I am wondering why you have trouble......Now I am scared for my own 5 speed....

Cool

Change the oil first, then decide if it is having problems.
