Question Help needed: 02 SE steering wheel into a Gen3

Okay I bought the wheel but when I looked at my existing, the connectors are totally different. The Gen 3 Airbag uses a single connector but the 02 airbag has two 2 prong plugs on the back of the airbag. Anybody have a clue as to why there are two? I called a dealer but I got clueless dolt who transferred me all over the store.

In thinking about it, I can guess that on each of the two prongs, one must be ground.
Anymore than that makes me feel like I am playing with a big firecracker.

Most important, can I get an adapter for those plugs to connect to existing?

I would like to stay on this side of legal plus I want to have everything functional.

I know some people here have done this before and am looking for assistance.

Pointers appreciated.

If you still plan to install this wheel, I would ditch the bag altogether - I'm pretty sure that 02 bag is NOT compatible with your Gen3 system. In any case good luck...

That is such a big jump. Installing a Gen 5 steering wheel into a Gen 3. Of course the wirings will be different, it's like 8 years difference. Anyways, I hope you get some good help.

Well, went to a Toyota dealership and beat on the poor guy. The two connectors for the air bag are on two wires that lead from the windup coil thingie. Who knows what goes on in there. This is pissing me off. Frustration.

Since the connectors don't match. You will have to cut the plug on one (or both) of the connectors, and wire them up manually. That's what I had to do for the Celica steering wheel when I put it in my Gen3 so that the airbag light doesnt turn on.

All I did was match up the wire colors. One should be yellow, and the other is yellow w/ blue stripe. Just match them up and connect with either solder or electrical tape or both.

Hope that helps.
