1994 Camry V6 Making a "Bell Ringing" noise-Video Included

Hello all, I have a 1994 Camry V6 that recently started making a strange metal ringing sound at idle and at speed. It almost sounds like an old style mechanical bell. Since its quite hard to describe noises over the internet I will include a video of the engine at idle. I tried to move the camera around so you could get a good idea of where the sound was comming from. To me, the noise seems to be comming from dead center of the timing belt cover. Possibly the right valve cover, but def. more on the side of the timing belt. What do you guys think?

Btw, nice place you guys have here, lots of good info.

it seems to me it was loudest when you were over the area your water pump is located, maybe a bad idler bearing or water pump, thats my guess

Cool

Rotating metal parts are hitting each other.

In order of what you would want it to be:
  1. #1 idler pulley
  2. Front/Rear timing belt sprocket
  3. Water pump

Take the timing belt cover off, and see if a sprocket, or idler pulley isn't wobbling as they rotate.
Hopefully, the 14mm bolt holding the idler pulley came loose, and it's just flapping around. Even if you ahve to replace those, they're like what? $20 a pop???

Great time for a timing belt, water pump, and accessory belts all to be changed.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take the timing belt cover off this weekend and see what the offending part is.
