my 6 gets around 20-22 city and 20-33 highway (dont ask)

i say go with the 6 cuz that would give your friends something to be impressed at.

the best thing to do is drive a 4 and drive a 6. see what you like. even the best description wont do justice to driving each one.

if you care about milage then go 4 banger. you want a little more power go with the 6. 96 v6 might be a little tougher to get.

if its a daily driver and u have another car with some speed go for the mpg with the 4 banger, thats the only benefit(more mods avail tho) otherwise get the v6, i get about 21mpg with 70-30 city-highway

If gas is not a problem then go with the v6. That's the only reason I don't have a v6, I can't afford gas.

97's tend to have problems in the front suspension. im not sure if the gen 4 v6 has the same suspension as the 4 but make sure you check that out.

if the car your gonna look at makes noise in the front act like your really worried about the cost and then knock $$$ off the price. then go buy a $15 haynes manual and fix it yourself.

I have 165,000km on 97 LE 4 cyl
Todate 1 round replacement shocks
1 timing belt replacement - due again -- be careful with this
No clutch problems (manual) no transmission problems
Still original muffler
Front suspenson problem was wear in sway bar bushings -- often diagnosed as something worse
Brakes have not been touched -- need to check in a few days -- mostly highway driving
The car is solid -- no rust -- but I am not exposed to much salt
LOUSY Headlights & marginal heater
Good Luck
