Exclamation Noise problem when wet 1mzfe (exhaust?)

HI all,

I have a 96 avalon, I know I should've post in Avalon section, but I think I will get more responses from the camry section, since the avalon and camry are alike. Anyways heres the deal, whenever the roads are a little wet, or I enter a little puddle, my exhaust system would be making a loud sound from under the car. The car itself, feels like its losing power. This would go on for about 3-5mins then go away until another puddle comes along. The sound is very loud and vibrates the whole undercarriage to the seats of the car.

I've checked underneath and saw nothing wrong at least in my opinion. Do you know what might be wrong? The car is 96 avalon XL 62,000mi. Thanks!

are you sure your engine isn't choking?
your exhaust making noise shouldn't make you noticeably lose power

When you hit a puddle your exhaust pipes cool rapidly. You probably have a loose connection or a small crack that is not readily apparent. When the pipes cool and contract at different rates it probably opens up a little and sounds like crap. I had one do that a few years ago, $10 for a quick weld and it was all good. Take it to a muff shop.

I never thought of the cooling effect. I'll take it to a muff show tomorrow and see whats up. Thanks for the responses!
