93 Camry 2.2L engine oil leak

I have a 93 Camry with a 2.2L engine. It has about 190K miles. The back of the engine (next to the firewall) is covered in motor oil. It collects and drips off of the sub-frame on the passenger side. I first thought it was oil pan, or cam/crank seals, but now I'm not sure. What would be leaking motor oil on that side of the engine?? I'm guessing valve cover gasket. What about the head gasket ?? Is there something else that I haven't thought of? Also, what's the bast way to get the engine cleaned off so that I can tell better where it's leaking from ?? Thanks

My 96 has the same thing. Not bad enough to be an issue. Just an annoyance. I was thinking maybe the oil sender?? I don't know where it's located though. I have tried looking back there with a mirror, but no luck.

Best way to know is to do an engine cleaning. I mean really clean it, then after a week check back. Actually if the leak is bad even a few days should show signs of where it is starting from.

Rinse. Soak with Automotive Simple Green (green/black bottle. cover sensitive electronics & air intake). Rinse. Repeat if necessary.

Also, keep in mind that when you drive the car the wind and inertia will push the oil droplets backwards.

my engine leak for 93 le.

oil plug - repaired FOC cos the mechanic F*** it up during an oil change.
valve cover - repaired 180$
rear main seal - alot $, cannot remember $ amount

still dripping a drop here and there but not that bad as last time when the engine oil will hit the engine and smoke comes churning out from the engine.

my celica with the 2.2 is leaking pretty bad. Toyota told me that it was more than likely the oil cooler gasket or the valve cover gasket as I already replace the oil pan gasket. They told me that head gaskets are very rare

valve cover might be it cos with the air flowing through the engine, it would blow the oil back behind the engine.

my rear main seal was a bad leak and it dripped onto the exhause and it smoked the car really bad

Typical Vale Cover gasket. Easy fix. Do not forget to replace Spark Plug Tubes when you replace the Valve Cover Gasket.

Worth the extra $18 in parts. They become brittle and if it fails, will let oil down the spark plug tubes.

But clean and observe first.

thanks to all. I will clean and observe, and let you know what I find. Might be a couple of weeks though - pretty busy right now. Thanks again.
