3rd Generation Jasper remanufactured engine (5sfe)

I've been reading TN for months and months now, never posting, but I've got some questions about my car.

In October of 2004, I blew a piston in my stock (138,000 miles on it) engine. The whole thing was replaced by a Goodyear shop with a Jasper remanufactured 5sfe 2.2 litre engine ($5937 ). Anyways, I love the new engine! It runs incredibly smoothly, and the acceleration is WORLDS better than it was.

Anyhow, my question(s) are:

Given that the engine is brand new (only has 1000 or so miles on it), what would be a good thing to do with it? Also, when the engine was replaced, what all did that include? I know they changed the engine and valve cover, but was that all? I can't really see much difference in the engine bay, except the much cleaner engine (heh).

Right now everything is stock (not sure if an engine replacement takes away a car's claim of being stock) besides the Jasper engine. Since I can start from the ground up with a super low mileage engine, would it be appropriate to have it supercharged? (I don't have the cash for this upgrade, but it's an idea for down the road).

Also, how do performance gains with a NEW engine compare to that of an engine with 150,000 miles? I mean, I know a CAI will only give you maybe 1 or 2 hp to the wheels, but does that ring true with engines of all ages and mileages? Will an engine with 1000 or so miles receive the same gains with identical hardware as an engine with substantially more mileage?

That's about it, I appreciate any input the gurus around here can offer. And yes I have searched, but not all my questions were answered to satisfaction in previous threads.

Regards,
Russell Cannon

A newer engine will find greater improvement than an older engine from modifications like headers, exhaust and intake. It is a percentages thing. 15% more on 100 or 15% more on 140.

and $5937 for an engine?!

Yeah, the price was rediculously high, but oh well, what's done is done.

I wouldn't concentrate on "high end" upgrades. adding a turbo or supercharger to this motor wouldn't be the wisest decision. the motor wasn't built to handle the power. the most i would consider doing to it would be intake, full exhaust, cams, port+polish head, and either get some high compression pistons or mill the head a little. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!! KEEP IT RUNNING

I know I know...I was being a dumb ass when I blew my last engine. Actually, I was doing something that was just recently mentioned in another thread (the 0-60 mph? thread), I had it in 1st (the car is an auto) and red-lined into drive. Blew a piston just like that.

if i were in your position i would focus on geting a manual tranny for it. then later on swap to a 3s-gte (turbo) motor. you can push an easy 400horse with that motor!!!!!!

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to just ditch the car completely (sell it) and buy a turbo 93 MR2 or something like that?

Rippmods sells a 5SFE supercharger. It boosts power from 135hp to somewhere between 170hp and 200hp. Forgot the URL for it tho - do a search (Rippmods) and you'll find the link.

You can go turbo, either making your own setup, or getting a CT26 off an MR2 Turbo 3SGTE and the exhaust manifold and bolting it on to yours (forgot the other mods necessary for it besides tapping the oil pan - i think a new downpipe is required).

gains are the same between old and new, typically. People recommend not boosting older blocks because older blocks are more likely to have problems than newer ones (weak seals, leaks, etc.)

edit: you're from Montgomery? If you're black and part of the Davis family from Hope Hull, we need to talk.
