Question prob w 98 camry exhaust ---question

Hi Guys,

got a question if any one can help great! My 98 camry 4cyl 2.2 has had a prob with the exhaust, sounded like a hole in the pipe (really loud), but the sound comes from the front of car, at times i can smell the exhaust fumes coming from vents,

when i went to leave my drive way today when i stepped on the gas i had only a little to no power with the engine, so i pulled back in . Does anyone have an idea as to what it is and how much it might run me to get repaired.... .

Thanks guys

Scott

Sounds like it may be the a-pipe, header pipe whatever you want to call it. It is the first section of exhaust that is bolted to the exhaust manifold. could be a gasket or break in the pipe.

check your front mount and dog bone. If it is the front pipe - its very expensive.

Little or no power when you step on it means you probably have a restricted exhaust. Thats usually caused by the catalytic converter. A plugged up converter will also cause excessive back pressure which could blow out a gasket.
