I think for quite a while (no longer than a year??) But I don't think it's very safe to do, cuz once it breaks, you're going to have a serious problem

Cool

The exhaust won't matter. The CV joint, needs to be re-greased and have a new boot put on ASAP.
If you hear it clicking it needs to be replaced.
Cost differance between a CV joint, and simply buying a brand new axle, half-shaft is about $20.
FYI you have a 3vz-fe, not a 3mz-fe

My civic has had a clicking CV joint for two or three years, this ES has had one clicking for two.

"I'll replace the CV joint aaaaafter I put a turbo on the car". <- Words of a very smart person!

Change the boot before you need to change the joint. You'll need a few hours for a DIY.

Leave the pipe till you get a warning ticket. Use your $$$ for beer in the meantime.

having replaced 2 of them:

i went 70k miles on a bad axle (pops and everything).

CV boot replacement, avg $220 in CA.
CV Half Shaft/Axle replacement, avg $160 in CA

here its cheaper to get a whole new axle than buying another boot. Check around up there in TO.

axle costed me 150 installed. the difference is, the parts for the cv boot are cheaper overall, but you pay for the labor. usually a new axle install will only cost you a little more (or in some places, even less) because there is much less labor, PLUS you get a brand new axle instead of just the boot. its really a no brainer, i always just replace the whole thing.

and btw, the last axle i replaced, pretty much fell out when the mechanic went in to remove it. i was probably riding on it for about 7-8 months. but yes, you will be screwed big time if it breaks further while youre driving
