Smile Any known problems with 2000-2001 Camry's?

Hi everyone,

Me and my wife are about to purchase a used, 2000-2001 Camry V6, probably the XLE model
but not certain yet. Maybe even a 1999 if it has low kms.
We would like to know if there are any potential known problems with this car.
I've located a couple of things so far, but nothing concrete..
Oil sludge problem? Has anyone heard of this?

I am amazed at how much information is on this site, I am still browsing looking for
known issues with this car.

Any information is greatly appreciated!!
THanks,

Morley

welcome to the nation, actually the Gen 4 Camry....the years you are looking at are prety bullet proof. Sludge isn't a problem with those cars, so long as regular maintainance is used. Lots of potential with a V6 though....like a supercharger...though you may want to buy a new couch first...she may toss you on it

keep using the search, there is an abundance of info here. Plus the people are very informative and friendly. if you see that a person was very descriptive on a thread but you need a bit more info just pm them. I have a great turn out with that. Gen 4 is a great model, you will enjoy it. How many miles are on the one(s) you are looking at? You can find anything from engine swaps to car care here. Welcome and Enjoy!

If you ever have any problems with the gen 4 that you might get, pm me b/c I have a 2001 with 95,000 miles. the only problem I have ever had one th car is the timing belt went out along with the cam shaft bearing about 3000 miles ago. At 90,00 miles they recommend having the timing changed. it was due for it before it went bad. good luck and go with the gen 4

If i were you, search for recalls on it, if anything major, ask the previous owner if they took it in.

i know they had 2 recalls for the 4 cylinder and also 2 recalls for the v6. nothing major.
my Check engine light came on at 70k and it was due to the ERG valve going bad.

do the regular suggested maintenance so that nothing will creep up on u.

i agree with everyone. regular oil changes, regular maintaince (transmission flush, timing belt change every 60,000 miles etc) and it'll be fine.

i have a 2000 Camry LE 4cyl, with 100,750 miles and no major problems yet. had a check engine light go on at about 50,000 miles, but it was bec i installed an intake. got it fixed. otherwsie, runs great.

hope this helps. good luck - btw, stick w/ the V6 Camry

It has 88,000kms on it, and picked it up for 17kplus tax.

There are a couple of things I want to do to it right away.
I would like to get a spoiler for it. I like the factory ones because they are low and sleek and sexy. Aftermarket ones are usually too extreme for my liking. Does anyone know on costs for the stock spoilers? I asked my sales rep and he is looking into it.

Also I would like to get some clear corners for the front. I just don't like the orange
in the front lights. Can someone recommend a better brand of clear corners? price range?
Thanks,

ps. Sorry for my ignorance, I am totally new to the Camry world, I only decided to buy a Camry yesterday

Yeah what skewe said. ebay has new, cheap clear corners. i got them for about $30 shipped.

and spoilers? ebay! i got mine, brand new, and painted to my car's color, and shipped for about $150!! That's right, and it's OEM spoiler, and the paint was perfect. they even asked for my color code (4M9).
