If you don't know what it is or what it does, you don't need it.

Air enters a engine like this: air filter --> intake piping ---> throttle body ---> intake manifold ---> cylinder head.

V6 has 2 intake manifolds (upper and lower). I4 only has 1.

Intake manifold from my 3S-FE:

its fun....
Drain coolant, remove air cleaner hose label and detach any wiring harnesses lift the wire harness over the manifold unbolt braces,(who knew there were braces under the back of the manifold?)remove bolts hold in it on

this is out of my haynes manual, why you drain teh cooling system... ihav eno idea you could probably skip it but i dunno

Its not to difficult.

The hardest part is unbolting it from the cylinder head. Bolts/nuts are impossible to get to from the top of the car, so you have to unbolt it from underneath. This applies to a I4, its different on a V6 (you can unbolt both halves (upper and lower) of the manifold from the top).

You don't need to lift the wiring harness over the manifold. On a 3S-FE/5S-FE the wiring harness clips onto the front of the manifold.

And you don't need to drain the cooling system.

Yeah thats what I was talking about. Recommended from the underside of the car. Did you have it on a lift?

Nope.

I removed the intake manifold with the engine in the car.
