Cool 93 3.0 to 95 3.0

I have a 93 camry with blown head gasket. I want to swap out that 3.0 v6 and put in a 3.0 v6 out of a 95 avalon. Where does one find the info on what years will swap and which ones don't?

thanks

you have a 3vzfe with your 93 and the 95 avalon has the 1mzfe

the wiring would be a nightmare. IMHO there is nothing too much better about the 1mz compared to the 3vz. 3vz has more torque i think.

check out car-part.com and im sure u can find a cheap replacement motor near where you live.

just replace the damn gasket. i dont know why people think once the/a head gasket goes you might as well throw the car out. if you can unbolt a dozen bolts and label some hoses and wires you should be all set.

definately not worth your time to replace the engine with a 30-40 dollar part needed to be replaced..

Cool ??????

Mechanics are asking around 2000.00 to do the head gasket job. Engine out of a totaled car runs about 800.00 to 1200.00 with 50,000 to 70,000 less miles. I have a mechanic that will put it in for 600.00. So I guess that is why I'm wondering which way to go.

Aint no way $2000 for the replacement... On that note, just buy one from an importer for around $400-800.

Only differance is the Japanese upper intake air chamber and rear exhaust manifold have no EGR equipment. The parts from your engine can be swapped over quickly. That's assuming you have strict emessions laws. If, like us, you have no emessions. It's drop and go.

$2,000 for a head gasket job is pardon me but fucking outragous. a good mechanic at a shop can do both sides in under 4 hours. assuming an average of about $75/hour labor + the $30-50 gaskets you're looking at around 350-400 bucks.

Cool

Even then... $30 for a timing belt, $75 for a water pump... The entire gasket kit for the engine sells for $125 on ebay. Ya I'd pay $2000... When he installed the turbocharger while he was putting it back together!!!

Print this out and take it too him.

I THINK YOU ARE A DUMBASS. Especially when I know I could do it in 3 1/2 hours. I'm not even trained!!! ROTFLMAO!

I'd say a lot more went then the head gasket at that price.......Or your mechanic is a thief. One or the other.

I agree with most everyone else here. $2000 is a high price. That head gasket repair shouldn't run you more than around $500.00 out the door. With that kind of high quote, I'd be willing to suggest he deliberatly quoted you that high rate because he doesn't want to do the work!

Ya, for $2000.00 you could actually swap a 1MZ-FE motor in there, if you do though, make sure you get an uncut wiring harness and ECU with the trannny all together and replace it all, and replace the timing belt on the 1MZ before you install it.

The 3VZ-FE motor is a good motor, IMHO it is worth reparing, and it's cheaper.

2000 is pretty high, buy honestly $1000 would be reasonable, here is Australia an 89 camry head gasket costs AU$1500 to have installed and replaced by a qualified mechanic in a proper workshop. The actual gasket itself is only around $20 but obviously there is a lot of labour involved

$2000 is rediculous, but $500 is too. It cost me $500 for a new timing belt, pump, and seals not a few months back...i paid a lttle too much, but the guy does good work and garuentees everything, so it wasnt that bad.

just a update on this whole situation. The original 2000.00 quote went to 2500. Tunex quoted 1398. The Honda dealer 1298.00. Menlove Toyota 1700.00. I'm confused on what the bid should be for replacing the head gasket on this 93 camry 3.0 v6?

That getting closer to what it should be...

Take the cost of changing the timing belt & water pump, add about two more hours worth of labor, $120 for the engine's entire replacement gasket set.

Along with the cost of replacing 2 gallons of coolant, and 5 quarts of oil.

Apparantly everyone in your area is out to make money. If $1300 is the best you can get out of anyone. Go for it.
