Hello,
I have a 2001 Camry CE, and i recently bought an air intake for it. Its an offbrand one from Ebay and it comes with instructions, and i used some instructions i found in a forum link on here. Well i have some sort of sensor on the top peice of my sock air box (the peice that comes off). I do not know what to do with this sensor because it dosent plug into my new air intake as far as i can see, also can i get some help on how to install the intake correctly, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
That sensor is your MAF - and it is very important. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the intake you bought is junk. Even if you got it installed somehow, it would most likely throw a check engine light. All hope is not lost though. With a little modification you can use it to replace the piping and resonator between your airbox and throttle body. here is how

Are you sure he's talking about the MAF? I too bought one of those eBay short rams, and the sensor fit in just fine. But if it is the MAF, forget about running the car at all, because you can't bypass it as far as I know.
P.S. - As tempting as it may be, don't waste money on getting TVs installed in that car, unless you have just a ton of money laying around. Spend the money on something else that you'll enjoy more in the long run. If you really want to customize the interior, get something you'll actually use, like GPS or a better stereo. Just my two cents.
MAF is the only sensor i can think of located on the stock airbox. The only other things you'd plug into the intake are vacuum hoses. By the way, just realized its only a 4 cylinder, so disregard that link in my previous post, thats only for the 1mz's. Maybe you could post some pictures of the problem your having?

It's a gen4 (97-01) 4cyl. It's the same as my '01 CE is. If you can post the picture of the sensor you're talking about it would help a lot.
Actually all 5S-FEs don't have a MAF. They use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.
I wasn't 100% sure on all of them so I didn't make a statement I didn't know to be 100% true. That's good info to know that no 5SFEs run MAF. I had MAF on my Altima... most intakes were just MAF adapters
Okay 5spd.. if you're still checking in on this. I just installed my short ram on my '01 and the tutorials didn't show the way mine went in... I'll post a picture up soon of what was different. I still didn't have any problems installed the generic ebay intake though.
Hello again guys.
Big Body....I keep checking up on this and i have EXACTLY the same car you have, except mines in 5 speed. I am the guy that you talk to on AIM sometimes. Would help alot if you could post them pictures up. Thanks
Attach the other tube here, no clamp is necessary.
My '01 did not have that part.... this is where the other tube goes to on my '01:
The only problem I have with the new intake (which isn't really a problem.. it just kind of bugs me) is that it rest against my strut tower:
Oh well.. it works fine and hasn't gave me a CEL yet so I'm not going to worry about it.
I used electrical tape to plug the IAT for now. I'm going to do a better job on that soon.
