3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
last tank of gas i only got 18 mpg! this was just all city driving and most of the time the ac was on. but my cam hasnt been getting good gas milage for a while now, probably about a year. so i was just wondering if anyone here knows of something to do to get the milage back up.
I've been monitoring my mileage in my 1995 Camry 4cyl 5-speed
and on the last fillup I got 33mpg (city and highway), I'll fill up tomorrow and I'm going to get about 35-37mpg on this tank (because it was mostly highway)
What can you do to get your mileage up? Well, its not so much what you can upgrade, but moreso.. what you can bring back to original condition.
Example: If your air filter is clean, replacing it will do nothing. If your spark plugs aren't fouled, replacing them won't make a big difference.
Try to find what's holding you back, weather its a bad air/fuel/spark delivery problem.
Most times, it'll simply be a dirty air or fuel filter, or spark plugs that need changing, although your car is fairly new, and that puzzles me why it would be suffering so early in it's life.
(you're not bagging it at WOT at every light are you?)
i just got new plugs in it about a year ago, and i put a new air filter in it about 2 months ago, and i stay up on oil changes. i was thinking about replacing the fuel filter cause thats a cheap and easy thing to replace so i figure its worth a shot.
and i havnt been beating on it, i rarely ever go over about 3k.
but it is an auto so it is expected to get less mpg than a stick.
Good idea, because when i changed my fuel filter, after the second fill up i noticed a MPG gain. maybe you need to do your plugs again and use some fuel injector cleaner.
i noticed injector cleaner doesn't do anything that's highly noticable. its a good thing to do except you can't really feel it do anything serious. my 95 I4 auto isn't getting the best fuel milage either ( no more than 250 miles a tank) so my guess would be to consider the fuel filter also.

My 95 auto has 14-17 city driving... that's so low? I know. I try to find many way to bring them back. Sprak change already... improve a little. What else, air filter, oil filter? and one quick question: if CAI help gas mileage?
Thanks!
