If shipping can be done properly and I can get the colour that I want then I'm in for sure.

Still am curious about the weight of a stock hood though. I know that the CF is about 10 lbs?

yeah, i think i read somewhere around 60lbs is stock...

me and dickson were wondering about it being 100% CF and this is what MB Autosport told me:

----------

"The hood itself is full carbon fiber but the under carriage support is made
of fiberglass. We do not know of any carbon fiber hood manufacturer that
makes a full upper and lower carbon fiber hood."

----------

so dickson i guess that answers our question.

speed: i think custom colors are extra ?

Yeah I know custom colours are extra. But I would only get it if they can paint it the same colour as my car...

If not, then what colours are my choices and what's the "default" look like for colour and texture?

As far as the material, I am not too familiar with carbon fibre and fibreglass... but is that the strongest? I don't know if you remember seeing some mpegs a while back on CMPL of these guys testing out a CF hood by abusing it... nothing happened to the hood at all! Is this the same hood that we'd be getting? Here's the mpegs:

yeah its the same type of hood. extremely durable and lightweight. (stage 1 weight reduction, hehe)

here is a pic of how a "default" looking hood looks like on a Gen3.

(Props to Yukio[sc3] i believe for pic and car)

my ride is a dark green so the carbon fibre black isnt too far off from my paintjob and as for your color, im pretty sure CF hoods can be painted.

I don't like extreme contrasts like that white Camry. But if they can do a colour match on the CF hood to match my car's colour then I'm in 100%.

neither do i, but i have a dark colored paintjob so thats not a problem.

your better off getting it painted here rather than having them do it because it will be cheaper for you and you wont have to risk the paint getting scratched en route. but i agree, for your color i would paint it aswell.

Well, keep me posted on when this is going down and what's the deal and stuff. I'm off to bed now. Too much studying for me tonight... or maybe too much time online! Either way, I'm tired!

here another answer i got from MB Autosport FYI:

"The firberimages hood in the video did not have the full factory support
underneath the hood (just around the edges, yes it is fiberglass). This is
how they were able to do what they did. This is great for demonstrations,
but can cause dimpling at high speeds (the wind will push the center down
into a dimple because there is no support there). I don't know if this
happens on fiberimages' hoods, but it is a very real possibility. Also, the
under carriage support design they used on that hood reduces stiffness so
the hood can flex up on the sides as the turbulant wind puts pressure on it
when you drive. Many of their hoods do feature full under hood supports, but
they did not do any video tests with those (atleast no on their website).

That kind of durability is a bit of overkill. Your stock hood definitely
can't handle that abuse but it is more than adequate for safety. It is
probably safer than a carbon fiber hood in an accident (the latch is just
glued on so in an accident the latch can rip off and the hood will fly
open/off - we always recommend hood pins). The hoods we offer are very
strong and we did do the jump test with the full undercarriage fiberglass
support. However, we don't recommend you try this."

HAHA if it is unbreakable that they can jump on it, why can we not try it (hypothetically speaking)? Are they afraid that it isn't really that strong because they are sort of "selective" with their jump test?

As for the other CF hood mpegs, what they said makes sense. But the purpose of those mpegs was to show how strong the surface was... that shouldn't be any worse with the fibreglass supports underneath.

As far as hood pins, can we not use the stock ones? And what would happen in the unfortunate and hopefully unlikely event of an accident? Would the hood just snap in two or would it flex and flex back?
