How do you remove the gen 3.5 rear panel?

Does it just pop off? What's a safe method without breaking the sucker?

Thanks.

Did you take out the 8 screws and the light bulbs? If you did then just push it out from inside the trunk.

^ as he said,
you gotta remove the cover, locate and remove about 8 nuts and pop it off. It's a lot more work than anyone would think

for that, there are some screws around the inner panel, you may need to take the whole panel off to get to them...

Yeah, you have to take out that whole rear panel thing to get the lettered part off.

Just did the same thing myself this week Whiterabbit. Do yourself a favor and do the very edge of the outer panel with the sound deadening material before you re-attach the outer and inner panels. I almost didn't and it still rattled when I checked it, before re-installing it. Hope this helps.

Sorry to confuse you. I didn't take pics, my bad. When you remove the 8 (8mm) nuts the whole center portion containing your reverse lights will come out. The part that actually rattles, (at least on my camry) was the outer "shell" of that center assembly. The plastic piece that actually has the C A M R Y letters on it comes apart from the part that bolts to the physical trunk lid. 4 philips screws and three plastic tabs hold them together. Try and do thin strips along the outer edge, that's what I did to make it nice and solid... as well as larger pieces all over the panel. Nice and solid and no more "bass rattles" I also took the liscense plate off and put a large piece across the back of that. Hope this doesn't make matters more confusing.
