Hi there everyone! So like the title suggests im going to be a owner of a 93 camry that needs some TLC. Let me state this now and get it out of the way: I do not care if parts end up costing more than the car, I just want to fix it up somewhat and have it be my reliable DD. With that being said the engine its coming with is a standard LE 4c (2.2 I believe) engine and im wondering if it would be pretty easy (and if not what I would need to do or what else I would need to get) to swap a v6 camry engine into it. Auto transmission btw. Im REALLY new but have someone experienced who will be helping me with labor and such. Hes just really busy so I dont have the luxury of asking him right now of what I would need. Also, Having a REALLY hard time trying to find actual performance parts for my camry year. (headers, full exhaust systems ect ect.) is there a specific aftermarket performance brand I should be looking at for my camry needs? Any help would be appreciated as I am having little to no luck with google in finding what I need. Thank you in advance!
A V6 swap really would only work well if you have a whole parts car. And even then it's a lot of work.
There isn't much you can do for performance that's worth the money. Most manufacturers do their best to get every last drop of available horsepower out of their engines. You see their pissing matches on TV ads all the time, do you really think they would design an intake that withholds 15 horsepower like K&N claims? Or an exhaust that will gain 20 hp? I don't. The biggest benefits to those mods are sound and looks.
If it's gonna be your DD, the money is better spent on wheels/tires, engine maintenance (timing belt, tune up, etc.), transmission maintenance, and suspension/drivetrain work.
I also agree with all stated above. it's just a waste of time and money, and they can be spent in a better way. You can make it A very decent DD car. They are well known to be very reliable, and with a little TLC, you won't regret it.
Best of luck
Not trying to be a Smart Ashe here with you but, its my thoughts that you need to re-evaluate your purchasing this car in the first place if you want more horsepower and sport like manners.
My brother and I found a great deal close to home from a gentleman who bought himself a new car and just didn't have the room for his beloved 1995 Toyota Camry 2-Door Sport Edition (SE) model with the V-6.
We luckily were the first ones to see the car and all it needed was:
1. Cruise Control Connector to be Connected to the Engine Compartment housing as previous owner's mechanic left it disconnected and below the Driver's Head Lamp.
2. Engine Miss-Fire as a result from two broken Ignition coil connectors at the right side (The side most difficult to reach and closest to the Firewall of the vehicle). Previous owner's mechanic was some sort of Gorilla Goon and broke the connectors at the Ignition Coils at these two Cylinders.
3. Needed a Timing Belt very badly as the last interval was over 123,000 miles ago at the time of purchasing the vehicle from the gentleman and we proved it by forcing him cough up the maintenance receipts!
4. It required a few other items such as passenger window regulator assembly, Ashe Tray for the rear console and a few other items.
SUMMARY:
If you stick to your Requirements as exactly what you are looking for then, you will work towards giving all your efforts to a car that will meet your goals and perhaps expectations and not be asking for Engine Swaps, Transmission Swaps, and other complicated and labor intensive work.
I do hope you re-consider your purchase and I recommend against purchasing this Econo-Family vehicle to be converted into something that was not built for in the first place.
Best of luck!:|

Stay away from the performance idea. Nothing to find in these motors. Stick to your regular maintenance. Timely oil changes and such. Get the transmission fluid exchanged right away and check the condition of the cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The FAQ and DIY sticky covers just about everything related to maintaining the 2.2L 5S-FE. Check it out.
