USA 97 camry starter keeps running

After testing, buying and installing a new battery, I was still not getting the car to start. I bought a new negative clamp and installed. This time it cranked right up but when I turned it off the starter kept running like it was trying to crank. I took the negative cable off and tried reattaching but was getting sparks and the starter kicking in. Could it be a relay switch or some other electrical problem.

Thanks
John

sounds like a relay problem...maybe you melted it when you sparked too much?

but to clarify....when you turn off hte car, it keeps cranking?
or when you stop cranking (manually with your key) it keeps trying? and if that's what's happening, does the engine itself run?

It's a dead starter. I had the exact same thing happen to me. Replace it before it fries itself and ends up smelling really bad and looking like this:
