Hey All,

Not sure if this might be helpful, but thought I post up what I went thru.

Likewise, all information here is provided AT YOUR OWN RISK because of the sake that I don't know everything...just sharing what I DO know.

I've been in the search of finding the factory 1998 Camry factory keyless entry. My 1998 LE V6 Anniversary edition did not come with the keyless entry installed. the Previous owner had an aftermarket one installed that didn't work that great and the remotes worked randomly at best.

With my OCD on trying to keep it as stock looking as possible, I set on an adventure that no one (I think) has tried on here. Install the RS3000 into a 1998 Camry.

I found someone selling the entire harness including the ECU and switch from a 1998 Camry I4 LE J-Vin. It was a dealer (not factory) installed one. I manage to picked it up, but I was having issues trying to figure out where the heck it wired into the factory connector and tap. Figuring the remotes for the RS3000 was also more hard to find and did not look the same as my other RS3200 system (I have a 2004 SE and XLE w/ the factory fobs, wanted to look the same...), I did a bunch of research if I could incorporate the 1998 Camry to use the RS3200 instead of the RS3000 which I believe was the original option for 1998.

Either RS3000 or the RS3200 had a 'SECURITY' light next to the rhetostat in the Camry.

From what I gathered
-The Camry Gen4 used the RS3000 system from 1997-1999. LE/CE trim had optioned to have it dealer installed if the client wanted it installed. Otherwise, it could come from the factory. XLE trim had some kind (not sure if it was the same RS3000) installed w/ engine immobilizer chip.
-The Gen4.5 (2000-2001) had the same option as the earlier years. Here's what it got confusing. I was under the impression that if you had the 'TOYOTA SECURITY' light, you had dealer installed and went with a different remote. I found two supposedly 'dealer install' with two different remote styles. See Below for comparison of the remotes that came with either the factory or dealer installed systems.

I'm also under the impression that a Camry could have just the factory keyless entry install without the alarm (so not the RS3200) but they will use the RS3200 remotes (without LED) as well.

RS3000 (Camry, Corolla AFAIK)

RS3200

OR

The one with the LED I found the FCC number starting with BAB237131-056
The one without the LED I found the FCC number starting with GQ43VT14T
THESE REMOTES LOOK ALIKE EXCEPT FOR A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THICKNESS ON THE REMOTE BODY AND THE LED LIGHT ON IT!

For what it is worth, my 2004 XLE V6 J-Vin w/ engine immobilizer factory installed keyless entry, 2004 SE I4 5SPD MANUAL J-Vin w/o engine immobilizer + ALARM w/ RS3200 kit that was 'factory' installed has the GQ43VT14T. My mom 2001 LE I4 auto w/o engine immoblizer w/ factory keyless entry also uses the same remote.

The different is the LED light on the remote and the FCC number.

Some must read information here on the RS3200 and the RS3200+

Anyhow.....

Long story short, after failing on installing RS3000 harness into my 1998, I had found a 2001 Camry LE V6 w/ the RS3200+ 'dealer' installed due to the SECURITY light visible. There is a difference between the RS3200+ and the RS3200 (and the RS3000). After ripping out the entire harness, I found that it was not plug and play in my 1998 Camry. One of the major connector did not fit. It was the major one (I believe) going into the fuse(BCM??) box.

From what I gathered, if this connector is the same color as your car, you should be fine. If not, it won't work.

Next post will compare with pictures of the RS3000, RS3200, and the RS3200+

The three Toyota VIP systems used in the Camry

Top right is the RS3000
Top left is the RS3200+
Bottom is the RS3200

RS3000

**Note the orange connector

RS3200

**This system had the orange connector as the RS3000 did. This one also had a bare gray white (as shown in the picture above) that didn't go to anything...

RS3200+

**The second to the last picture is important. This connector came from the fuse panel. My Camry had the Orange connector and the RS3200+ had this white connector. There was also 2x more pins as well in this connector, so it did not fit.

RS3000 orange connector

RS3200 orange connector

RS3200+ White connector

This is the connector that I am talking about where the fuse box/all the connectors are plug into.

The RS3200+ had a white one instead, so it did not fit.

I only have a decent set of pictures uninstalling the RS3200 from a 2001 Camry CE I4 4-Vin that I was able to successfully transplant into my 1998 Camry. The only thing that does NOT work is the Piezo buzzer. I could not figure out how to remove it without chopping everything.

Camry has seen better days...

Locate the piezo buzzer. Again, I'm getting conflicting information on this. I've found supposedly 'dealer' installed RS3200 without this piezo by the master cylinder, but they are located on the passenger front side marker. I'm suspecting maybe it could be a dealer 'factory' install will have the piezo buzzer on the brake cylinder. LE models that don't come it the keyless might be pre-wired for the piezo by the front passegner marker? Not sure. As far as I know, if it was a true dealer install RS3200, the piezo buzzer is included like shown below.

This one that a dealer installed one.

It goes into the fender...

I couldn't get the wires out without cutting...there's a part where all the wires are molded before going through the firewall...this is why I don't think the dealership did this but it was rather a dealership kit installed at the factory??? if that makes any sense? If it was a dealership add on,. I would have a much easier time removing the piezo buzzer I would think.

Anyhow, lets focus on the major part. The actual RS3200 alarm system.

Get down to this. Remove the lower plastic panel and metal support

Start disconnecting the main harness. It's the one that has the orange connector and everything that is taped up in front.

Vin shot for those curious

There is a 2-pin connector next to the orange connector on the bottom. It's in a tight squeeze. I just chop off the factory harness and kept the connector so I would know where I would patch these into my wiring harness.

An ideal where it is

Trace all the cables coming from the harness.

Unplug these connectors. Basically all these connectors plug into the factory setup. They are basically a 'T-Connector'.

Disconnect more of the connector that goes into the fuse box. Again, T-Connectors. I did not take picture of every single one.

The RS3200 has a cable running from the RS3200 harness into the steering wheel column. follow the orange cable on the yellow (airbag) cable

Note where it taps.

Now, let's look near the key cylinder. There's a couple connectors here.

Again, mostly T connectors

Once that is done, follow the main harness behind the radio. The alarm ECU is located behind the glove compartment.

So to re-install into your car presume it's compatible, you will need to tap the 2 connectors (see above) and the steering wheel harness. Funny thing was when I removed the Rs3200+, it wasn't the same. It only had the wire taps in the 2 connector but nothing for the steering wheel column.

Installation should be easy if you removed the RS3200 from the donar car. I was able to re-install the system following my steps on removal and was able to program a RS3200 remote that I purchased.

As of right now, I have 95% of the functionality of the RS3200. I am able to lock, unlock and it has a sound (glass) breakage sensor that works. The car exterior and interior lights flash as needed when unlock and locking. Able to see auto lock and auto open when the car is started or turn off. I am able to open and lock(arm) car with the factory remote I bought. the Piezo buzzer does NOT work as I can't figure out the wiring yet as my camry did not come pre-wire....

This information is a bit scrambled - I'm tired and I plan to edit this in the future.

Any questions, ask me and I can see if I know the answer lol.

Done. Added to the "Interior Info, Maintenance, and Repair" section. Man, how'd I miss this one?!?!

Added the PDF files. Also, I found the TVSS Owner guide for the really really OLD security system in early 90s.
