02 Camry SE short shift kit?

I have a 2002 Camry SE 4 cyl, 5 speed. My wife drives it for the most part, so I dont drive it much. I noticed last night while driving it that the shifter on that car just plain sucks. Very notchy, long throws, not fun at all. Does anyone have a short shift kit? Is the shift linkage the same as any other Toyota, like maybe a Celica GTS? The rest of the car is really nice, the 4 cyl goes great with the five speed. Thanks.

Take a look at your Gen5's shifter assembly, if it's the same as the one shown here for the Gen4/Solara, then you should be able to use a TRD short shifter.

Here is what the TRD short shifter looks like. Notice the longer bottom stalk below the pivot ball, compared to OEM.

I took a good look at my shifter... if you have a metal worker in town, it would be extremely easy to have say 3 inches chopped off, and the small notch milled out for the ring for the shift boot put back in. A guy in town quoted me $65.

If I'm reading correctly, why would you want to cut 3 inches off? That would make it a shorter shifter, not a short shifter. The shifting is the same as stock.
