'07 Camry vs '06 IS250???????????????????????

Since the spy photos still don't give me a really *good* idea of what the new Camry's gonna look like & I'm already in love with the new Lexus IS series of cars. I contemplated even splurging & picking up an IS if I do end up going w/ a new car next year.

Would Camry owners here be willing to go that route??

Or are they just too dissimilar a car to consider in the same category???

Or just go cheap & start a collection of good, used, low-milage Gen 4's for my garage??

It really depends on what ouare wanting. THey are not similar at all in my opinion. THe IS is RWD/AWD and the Camry is FWD first off. THe IS is gonna have significanlty higher HP. THe IS is much sportier to drive I am sure. More luxury car feel in the IS I would think also. The only thing I can think of taht would put them in the same category is size probably. Besides that they are like night and day.

Hmmmm.............good points!!

Although, besides the "done up" interior on the Lexus, I'm guessing the "luxurious" part of the *ride* will go to the Camry. (Ever since '97 the Camry's been a floater, but I like it).

I'd probably have to test drive both. I just can't buy a Gen 5 right now though. Definitely gotta wait for Gen 6. As if everybody on my block didn't already have a Gen 5, my next door neighbor just bought an '03 for his 19yr old son.........(grrrrrr!!!!). I thought first cars were supposed to be *beaters*???? WTF??? His 19yr old kid drives a nicer car than I do.....LOL!!!

Come on Toyota........dish out some more info on the '07...........I need details.....(& more pics!!)

don't think that it is really a fair comparison..

yes..obviously, the IS is much more luxurious and such..but size wise, it is significantly smaller inside. i think if you were comparing the ES and the Camry...it would be a little more fair.

The IS is in another class than the Camry. The IS250 isn't that fast either, you'll probably have better acceleration in the '07 Camry V6 than with the IS250, the AWD is slowest of the three. If I remember correctly, its acceleration numbers were the same or if not slower than the current Gen5 V6.

I'm considering buying a new IS, I've test driven it (the IS350, not 250) and its quite a monster when you step on the gas.

But Fungke is right, comparing the Camry to the IS is not a fair comparison especially when considering size - the rear seat room in the IS are tiny, I feel as cramped back there as the Solara, if not more so. So at this point, I'm waiting for the '07 ES, to see if it is comming out with the new 3.5L V6 as well. If it is, hopefully it should equal or surpass the power output in the Avalon (it might even equal that of the IS). That way, I can get more room and more power at the same tim - always a plus

Perhaps you may wish to wait for the '07 ES as well? Then you can make a really fair comparison.

Oooooooh..............I do like your collection there...........93, 98, 05!!! Good lookin' driveway!! LOL!!!!

Ya, I'm definitely not a *new* ES fan. I'd give my left nut for an '02 ES300 fully loaded, etc. etc., but I've always kept that as a dream.

The best decision for me.......(especially since I'm cheap).......would probably be another I-4 Camry in the '07 garb. It's a smart, efficient buy & I know it........................but those new IS's just look so daggguuummmmmmm goood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its day and night what your talking. I4 camrys' are for your frugle people who think they saved a bunch by buying a cheaper alternative (i have one as a commuter car). v6 camry people think they did the wiser thing by buying a reputable v6 with decent power (this is my weekend cruiser). its a catch 22. But when your bringing in IS to this equation..it nowhere close to the above. I had fun w/ the Is250 at the tracks, its lovely. but what is your intended purpose of the car...if i were to do things again, IS250 would be it, its small and perfect for me.

going to post here since it was mentioned....will do a search when i get home from class.
i thought that the next generation ES is going be released as a 2008 model as it comes out after the camry. are they coming out the same time since they are not sharing the same platform?

Far as I know (or heard), the 2007 ES will share the same platform with the Camry again... also hearing that Lexus will try to differentiate it more from the Camry. Who really knows? I'm sure this has been posted many times before, but here are some pics I found:

'07 or '08 who knows for sure... We'll just have to wait and see. The IS really isn't a bad choice if you don't mind the smaller size. You'll definitely have a lot more fun driving that car than the Camry. The one I test drove was priced at around ~$38,800 w/o the nav system. I prefer to have it with the navi so either I'll have to order it or wait until the dealership gets one.

oh well...
