Gen 5.0 thru 5.5 review

Hello all:

i believe the Gen 5 came out in 2002. can you guys fill me in on any or the various changes that were made from 5.0 thru 5.5? i believe the body style has not changes, except for bumpers. any other changes took place within this Gen? thanks. my cousin wants to buy a Gen 5, but not sure which year to go for. i told him to go for the 2002 model.

Dude, there was only a Gen 5 and Gen 5.5. No others. The 2002-2004 are the same. 2005-2006 are the same. Thats it.

EDIT: And it was the front bumper, headlights, and tail-lights that changed from the Gen 5 to the 5.5. Also, the 3MZ-FE engine was introduced into select models of the v6 5.5.

yeah man. i think all of the stuff in the Gen 5-5.5 all all backwards compatible too. except like fogs? or something.

Some interior changes too (many are not backwards compatible). Interior changes include:
- redesigned optitron guages
- front center console door/cover
- option for two level front center console (not sure if available in US)
- rear 3rd headrest
- standard leather for all XLE V6 starting in 05
- standard ABS on all grades starting Gen 5.5 (I think)
- standard interior chrome trim for door handles and shifters for LE, no longer just XLE (started in 05)
- Audio controls on the steering wheel (my favorite change)
- Seat belt warning sound (one of the most annoying change)

That's all I can think of - but besides maybe the color choices and trim packages, not much changed between '02 to '04 and '05 to '06

doesn't the gen 5.5 have the 5-spd automatic tranny?? i'm not sure if the gen 5 have it or not

Not all the models have it. Only the V6 does. And I believe only the 3.3L does, and a select few 3.0Ls have it. The rest have a 4-speed.

No, 5-speed is available on all models including 4 cylinders. The 5-speed was previously only available on 3.3L V6 and the 210hp vvt-i 3L. It is now across the board.
