Gen5 Drum to disc-2003 Camry

How complicated would it be to take the rear axle from four wheel disc car and put it on a 2003 LE? Bolt on with some brake line modification? Thanks.

probbly easy but you'll probbly have to change the proportion valve too... and the e=brake cable and the whole hub assembly off the the car with disk

More work than its worth, if you want improved brake power i suggest that you invest in big brake kit, or upgrade pads and rotors.

surely someone's tried this, I too am interested in what should be a relatively simple swap if you can find the parts for a reasonable price...

Anyone who's watched American Hot Rod knows that darned near anything can be done to a car for a price. So, sure, you can put disk brakes on the rear of an '02 Camry. It just depends upon how much money you have to burn for what amounts to very little impact. Rear brakes do little. Most drum shoes live the live of the car. Save your money unless you are under the age of 30 and have more money than Trump. In that case, run up the bill and enrich the economy.

any suggestions then on how to improve my braking performance? the difference between the se/xle and le is measureable in feet. I have abs, I upgraded to 28 inch alloys with falken 512 speed rated tires (helped handling a lot but not braking). Do performance pads help? Should I upgrade the FRONTs to the se/xle setup instead, which should be less difficult?
thanks

I haven't looked at the stopping distances and how they might vary between models of the 2005 Camry, and I have idea if the various models use larger calipers or rotors (V6 is larger than I4), BUT, depending upon how many miles are on the car, make sure the master cylinder is 100%, bleed the brakes out well so you have clean fluid at the calipers and there is no hint of air. Get good, somewhat soft, pads. Make sure the rotors are a bit scuffed up. New ones with lap marks are better than turned without lapping marks, or get hold of a grinder/sander and scuff them up so that you have a rough surface. They will stop better than factory until the rotors smooth out. Beyond that there is only so much you can do to stop faster, so consider slowing down a little.

Kocho did a drum to disc conversion on his Gen 4 Camry and has posted a DIY in the past. Gen 4 and Gen 5 are somewhat different, but you may find the DIY useful.

How did you fit 28" wheels on your car? That rim alone is larger than the overall diameter of the original wheel.
