5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 2005 Camry does that all the time on the highway, usually on bumpy roads.
I get a loud beep and the stereo shuts off. Sometimes instead of shutting off, it kicks into an AM station?
I thought it was a buffer problem because it only happened when I was playing CD's. Lately, it's done it even if I'm listening to an FM station. It either shuts off or kicks me to an AM station. It never happens around town or on short trips.
It always just comes right back on, so I never asked the dealer about it.
Sometimes if the road is real bumpy, it'll shut off every few mintues though. Kind of annoying. I guarantee I'm not touching the steering wheel controls whn it happens.

I drive the same same streets/highways nearly every time I go out, no unusual bumps of which I am aware,

I only drive around town, no long trips yet.

Radio did not come back on, until I turned it on.
Maybe if I had waited X minutes, the radio would have come back on.
Since this problem appears to occur in 2005 and 2006 models, I sure would expect Toyota to know about it.
They need to do something.

So far, I've seen the problem only once, but then I do not drive much, only about 700 miles since 30 September 2005.

Me too. I turn the radio on and do not even change stations.
take it to the dealership. they'll fix it. warranty is still in effect right?
For this type of problem, a dealer cannot fix unless Toyota has told them about the problem and given them a fix.
They most certainly cannot reproduce the problem, unless Toyota has already told them how to do so.
I'm not going top let this issue slide.
My previous car, Nissan Stanza, had a serious radio problem just before the warranty expired, and I let it slide. Not this time. An I was not the only nissan Stanza owner with the problem.
Using the Mode button neither causes a beep, nor does it turn off the radio, just cycles the FM1, FM2 and AM.
If I was pressing on the mode button, I was not aware that I was doing so.
However, pressing, and holding, the mode button does replicate the behavior.
I guess that I'l wait until it happens again.
One point I don't think I made clear, when my stereo beeps real loud and shuts off, I actually have to turn it back on myself. It doesn't come back on by itself. I meant that it always comes right back when I turn the power back on.
Now that I think of it, my 2000 Camry did the same thing in the same type of conditions, bumpy highway roads. It was a CE model so it didn't have any steering wheel controls for the radio. Next time I'm at the dealer I'm going to ask them about it.
