5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am sure this question has been asked before but I must ask again. I recently received a 2006 Camry LE V6 as a company car. I don't like the car but it is free so what the heck. Anyway, how do I disable the annoying seat belt chime? I wear my seatbelt so I don't need to hear that loud chime every time I get into my car. I tried the instructions I found online on how to disable the chime in a 2005 Avalon but they do not work. Please help.
your a hater man,,,i aint telling you how to disable the chime now,,,The camry is the greatest car,,to have that as a company car,,i think that should raise some questions,,its like an executive style car,,its one of the most comfortable relaxing cars you will ever drive,,,anyhow,,go to Toyota.ca,,,they have the manual there,,its the same for the 2005 and 2006 to turn off the chime
If you touch the brake pedal, it will screw you up, so feet off the brake from the second you get in the car. I also had all doors closed, not sure if that matters.
- put in your key and turn the car on, do not start the engine
- Set the LCD on the combination meter to the ODO trip.
- turn car back off for a minute
- turn it back on
- Press and hold the TRIP meter reset knob for ten seconds or more within six seconds of turning the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Fasten the driver's seat belt while holding the knob (this is the tricky part)
- as soon as you fasen the belt, the LCD should change
You may have to hit the reset meter knob to cycle through b-ON to b-OFF (b-off, obviously turns the belt warning off)
- once you set it to b-off, just sit there and wait and the lcd will return to normal, turn the car off you are done.
If you miss any of the little things, it will not work.
Thank you so much for this information. It worked perfectly. As I said before, I am a seat belt wearer. I just find this chime to be extremely annoying. This is a company car so I work in it on a day to day basis. When I put my laptop bag on the passenger seat, it is sometimes enough for the car to think there is a person sitting there without their seatbelt on so it starts chiming. How useless and annoying! I really miss my last company car but for now I can live with driving a Carmy. At least it is a V6 and not a 4 cylinder and like I said, it is free so what the heck.
I read the instructions to disable the seatbelt alarm. I did it. Very easy and I am very pleased without the chime. I love the camry and it is even more fun to drive now.
completely satisfied
the seat in the Camrys are not the most comfortable.. for that you need to ride a Lex... but the space is great, the body is fine, and the total performance is fantastic

What exactly does this disable? I did this on my 2005 XLE and it did go from b-on to b-off, but after the LCD reset back to the odometer, I turned the car off and back on and it was still dinging. Is this just to prevent the dinging while driving (w/o seatbelt) or is this supposed to disable the dinging altogether, including starting the car before putting on the seatbelt? Thanks!
When you initially turn on the car, you will get a few dings if you don't have your seatbelt on even if you took a moment to change the setting to b-off by using the instructions above. The nice thing is that this turns off the annoying chiming while driving. In my case, this has been helpful because I can now put my computer bag on the passenger seat without the chiming being set off by the weight of the bag. It will be a long three years driving this boring Camry until they give me a new car. If it were a 4 cylinder, I think I would quit my job. Thank goodness it is a V6, which has saved me from completely disliking this car.
k guys, i've been trying this personally on my friend's '05. either i'm retarded or im not doin it right. 5 questions:
1. does it matter if headlights are on or off?
2. when it says turn key to off, does that mean take out the key or leave it in "ACC"position?
3. By ODO trip, do you mean "Trip A" or "Trip B"?
4. By "turn car off for a minute" does it have to be exactly 60 seconds, or could it be more?
5. Do I fasten the seatbelt within the 10 seconds time of holding down the knob, or after the 10 seconds time.
