I test Drove the Gen 6 Today

So i went to my dealership today, because they just got in 4 07 Camry's.

I test drove the LE Version with a sunroof and all i can say is...you have to see it in person to really appreciate it. It doesnt look as bad is it does in the photo's. And the suspension is killer. Although the Engine is a little Dumbed down because of the Stability and Traction control.....its still a fun drive. I drove for about 5 miles in it and its very comfy and also very roomy. The layout is great and there is many little places you can put stuff. Legroom for the passengers are huge.

Although im big into aftermarket audio, the stock stereo (6-speaker setup with WMA/MP3) was decent sounding. The steering controls were also a plus.

I like the gauges in the Gen5.5 better tho than the 6, but the Gen6 gauges are better looking than the origional Gen5 gauges IMO.

At the end of my test drive they made me a great offer and im still debating on weather or not is should take it. They offered me $8,000 for my car (which is heavily modified/damaged). Then they offered me a finance charge of only 7% (mind you that i have no credit history).....and payments of $266/mo for 72 months. (I make $1700/mo). The Car costs $22,210.00

Does this seem like the thing to do? Should i buy the Gen6??!!! I love the car, and i have never bought a car for myself before, all my cars were given to me so i never got to choose color/options or anything. Do you think im over my head? (I've only had my job 2 months).

hmm... If it's a V6, go for it, 'cus I don't really see a point from going from a Gen5->Gen6 if the engine is the same and costs $19K. Seems more like a waste of $ unless you really like it much better. But, my point of view is a bit biased on performance and not really the aesthetics.

you already have a fairly new car and you're basically getting the same thing you have (assuming you're not getting the v6) but you're paying them 14g's AND you're carrying a burden of a debt for 72 months!! Thats 6 years dude!!

IMO there are better ways to spend your money

I wouldn't touch a new car loan with 7% with a ten foot pole, regardless if you have no credit. Look in the paper they list loan APR's, usually in the Sunday paper. It may sound like a good deal, but remember this car is HOT and new. Build some credit, then buy the car. Good luck.

7% dude is too high even with no credit history. and they are getting you for 6 years, you will be upside down on the car as soon as you take it off the lot.

I dont understand where you folks get your rates. I always see coments of "that rate is insulting!" and other negatives. The man has NO credit, gets a single digit rate for 72months!!!!! That is incredible. Even the credit unions around here might give 5.25 for 72 to a member with a 680 or higher beacon.

His offer sounds pretty damn good tom me,considering 07's sell for $2K over sticker here.

i dont know what year his car is. If it is an 02-03 with damage that is a good deal, as far as a dealership is concerned. They will have to repair all thats wrong, or just wholesale the car(which is more likely w/mods & damage). An 04 or later, depends on the damage. Sure he could get better selling on his own. But it can be a big pain in the butt.

when you add up $266 X 72months you get over $19000 in payments, that is over $5000 in interest. There is no way you could recover that in a trade-in. Something to think about...

Dude, may be you can see the deal better if numbers are involved; you are paying around 5k of interests for a smiliar car that you already have

First, shop around with banks for a better deal and try to sell the car on the market. Put a tag for 9500 on it and see what you can get. Maybe put a few bucks in it to make it a better sell.

Then when you sell it, you can put all that money towards the loan.

Better yet, do what I did if you can. See if you can borrow 8000 from someone else you know and then do the financing with 8000 down. HTen sell the car on the market and you should get the 8000 back plus more.

I had a 94 tercel. Bought for 4000 in 98-99. Dealer would give 2000 for it trade in. Parents game me 2000 for down. Sold the car for 2500 (started at 3000) Payed parents back with 500$ to spare.

Also, I just read a recent post about warranties.
Dont bother with extending them. I had the option to extend it and would have wasted 1600$.

How many miles on your car? What do you mean by heavily damaged and modded?

Brian---what is the damage on your current Camry? I vaguely remember you got in an accident over the winter (could be someone else) with a snow bank. Can you make a claim on your insurance? Whats your deductable? See if you can increase the value of your current ride for a bigger down payment on the new one. 7% is not a good percentage on a loan, if you don't have credit build some. If Jimmys math is good 5,000 dollars in interest is ridiculous. If 7% is the first offer they can go lower. Shoot I got 1.9% on my Tacoma (through Toyota) and 1000$ over book for my trade-in after walking away from a deal (I have good credit). Plus this car is hot right now, you might not get that good of a deal. My .02 cents.
