5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just thought I would start a thread since I know there have been several from people test driving the '07. This might be a good place for the curious and prospective buyers to get a feel of the car if they haven't yet had a chance to test drive it.
I went down and test drove a white V6 LE w/ JBL Bluetooth enabled stereo, and alloys. Sticker price is $25,500 . First impression is that it's much sportier looking, and the front grill isn't all that bad. I love the back. Car was manufactured in Japan.
Dayum. The POWER! I went up a moderately steep incline and after downshifting a gear at the start, it flew up the hilll effortlessly. I would have loved to all out floor it but I didn't want to scare the sales lady . The car has a much better feeling on the inside..it feels..safe. It's not as huge on the inside but that of course, is not always a good thing for the taller folks. The brakes for some reason were really tight. I barely had to touch it and I was screaching to a halt. I think it needs to be adjusted or something..
Overall, it is an extremely nice car but I still love my '05. The '07 isn't drastically different as I had imagined. It rides slightly better but it doesn't feel all that different - UNLESS you're after the sweet 2GR-FE! I think now is a good time to test drive both an '06 and an '07 if you're in the market - cuz I'm sure you'd get a nice deal on an '06 if that suits your needs better.
The '07 I test drove already had plates and current safety/registration tags. She said they got it in on Friday - it has 600 miles now. She said it's been in and out of the lot all day, everyday since they got it.

I plan to replace the 4-cylinder 07 Camry LE my wife just totalled with the V6 model. The 07 that we had for all of a week was, to me, a much better car than our 05. The 05 felt like a Toyota with a little touch of Lexus, while the 07 seemed like a base Lexus with a little touch of Toyota.
As for the safety, I can definitely attest to that. She pulled out in front of someone and got t-boned at about 40-45mph, and not even a bruise. I'm really glad I got the 07 with the extra airbags instead of being frugal and getting an 06 at a discount price. She felt it definitely made a difference.
i test drove the 07 SE with 5spd manual. no difference performance wise, suspension's alot stiffer sportier, and the car looks hideous without the skirt kit (my opinion).
all in all, not all that exciting, still like my 02 and wouldnt trade in for the 07.

I'm glad your wife is okay, because that's what matters most. Wont your insurance just replace it for you?
Hmmm i'll have to see if my parents are up for a new car this year..this is sounding like a car they'd like to drive. We are a toyota family but the gen 5 camry's havent exactly gotten their attention. They feel the camry's have gotten too large (they are not tall or large individuals by any means), and they dont like to park or drive around with larger sized sedans...unless its a van or an suv because they are taller.
i liked the '07, but the deal was too good to pass up the '06. i liked all the added airbags that are standard even on the lowest model on the '07s, but at the same time, i don't feel unsafe at all in the '06. if the rebates are not an issue for you, i would swing the '07. there really is not much if any price difference between the two. the 07 CE model is the lowest model, but has more standard features than the '06 LE does.

Damn, good thing your wife is okay. Yeah, the new camry has the front driver/passenger, side curtains, and knee airbags as standard. A huge upgrade, and man, I bet you're the first one to have a 2007 Camry totaled.
Good luck with your next buy. I would honestly get a SEV6 but a XLE is a better choice for the money in my opinion.
As for me, I test drove the 2007 Camry two weeks ago. Back when it was the first batch in the dealers. It was fun and I didn't want to drive my 2005 camry. I alomst ended up buying it. >_<

Yeah, it was pretty amazing considering the damage. My 3 year old son was in the back seat. As soon as the accident happened, she turned and asked him if he was ok. She said he asked her "What was that noise?" and smiled.
And yeah, she probably is the first person to total an 07 Camry. I've been giving her hell calling her "Camry Killer". I might even get her the personalized tag CMRYKLR.
one thing i considered was.....generally, the last model year of a specific model is the best one they have made. such as the '06 is the pinicle of the gen. 5 model. the opposite of that is the first two years of a new vehicle or redesigned model is usually the worst...not necessarily bad, but they have worked all the bugs out buy the second or third year.
^ Yeah, but then, you'll be the first one on the street with the new model and everyone will be staring at you. It's a great feeling to know people are staring at the car and you. I know, because one time, a cop was following my mom in FX35, back when it was first introduced in the dealers. Anyways, she was scared that he was gonna give her a ticket so she went inside the parking structure to escape but the cop followed her in and when she got out, the cop got out and asked her about the car. He just wanted to know what car it was.
