Unhappy 1st Problem: 2007 Camry XLE Cruise Control...

After two weeks of enjoying my 2007 Camry XLE, I am now "enjoying" the opportunity to drive a 2005 model...

Friday, on our first trip out on the highway, I noticed that the cruise control wouldn't come on. Nothing lit up on the dashboard when I pressed the on/off button and the speed wouldn't lock when I attempted to engage.

I took the car into the dealership on Saturday. Waited about two hours before having to leave. When last I looked, the technician had taken the lower dash apart and had a manual open and appeared to be trying to trace down the wires. Fortunately, the dealership has a loaner program, so I do have a car.

Unfortunately, by the time the shop closed on Saturday, they had not resolved the problem. The service manager told me they will have to contact Toyota Service Support for assistance. I hope Toyota Tech. Support is better than some of the companies I have to deal with...

Part of the joys of owning a brand new model year...

Any ideas as to what the problem might be? It doesn't appear to be as simple as loose wires...

I cant give you any advise but I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry that you have to go through with that cause I just went trough a transmission issue with my 07' XLE and I know exactly what you are experiencing. My dealer did not have a loaner program but they do work with enterprise so they put my in a dodge magnum for almost 3 weeks.

Good Luck and I hope it works out

Man, what is going on with these new 07's? I am holding off for now as I am reading to many negative posts about this new model. I was just about to pick on up this weekend.

Hmmm, better safe than sorry, a few months won't hurt waiting.

Before everyone gets down on the new Camry...

The cruise was not functioning but everything else was doing fine. I figure I paid for all the features to work, so I wanted to get this fixed sooner than later.

I believe one of the issues that we will suffer from as new model owners will simply be the lack of repair experience in the shops. These guys are seeing the guts of the car for the first time. This is the first time they get to find out how all the switches and gadgets work with the "brains" of the computer.

I have a feeling what the answer will end up being is that the brain is defective. The switch was checked and worked, the wiring appeared to be okay. But the brain controls all the interactions with the engine when running the car.

I will say that the 2005 LE I am now driving is not in the same class as the 2007 XLE!

Not right now I don't...

But I figured that lever thingee on the right side of the steering column is for more than just exotic appearances...

Interesting. It's odd that the new Camry seems to be having more problems than other Toyotas. Still better than GM. This off topic....but I just bought a used 2003 Silverado ....wanted a Tundra but too expensive....and the day after I bought it the Check Engine light came on. Apparantly the gas cap was bad. Then all the lights on the radio quit. One good thing is that I bought it from a Toyota salesman that didn't know that GM's cruise control was on the Turn signal arm and I saved a couple hundred dollars....back to the point I'd rather have a Toyota than another brand.

1st Problem: RESOLUTION!

Folks, I picked up my 2007 Camry XLE last night from the dealership. I can confirm that the XLE does come with Cruise Control and not just an extra lever on the right side of the steering column...

According to the service manager, the problem was a defective spiral wire (AKA, "clock spring") in the steering column. The cruise control portion of this assembly was not functioning.

They replaced the "Combination meter assembly R&R" and the "cable sub-assy, spir," put it all back together and everything now appears to work.

As is usually the case, the service manager told me that this was the first time he had ever had to replace a clock spring, regardless of the model...

I am hoping this is the only problem my car will have for a while...
