5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just ran through my first tank of fuel on my new 2007 Camry XLE V6. The onboard computer says that the mpg average for this tank is 23.5. I think that is pretty darn good for mostly city driving and I'm not super light on the throttle, either. I'm relatively sure it was 87 octane as it was the full tank of fuel that was included with the purchase of the car.
I'll be comparing the computer's number to my calculated (gallons/miles) to see if there is any deviation but for the most part I'm really happy with the combo of power and mileage that the car delivers, and it sure is nice to be able to drive 400 miles or more on a tank of fuel, even in city driving.
I'm hoping that as I get a few more miles on the car and the weather warms up that the mileage would improve a bit. I'll be trying a few tanks of 92 octane to see if that makes a difference in either power or mileage, and when appropriate, I plan on using Amsoil synthetic when changing oil.
I would think that it should be possible to get 25 mpg or better in mixed driving, and 30+ on a highway cruise. I know that the EPA numbers for this car are 22 city /31 highway and it's nice to actually be able to hit those numbers, especially considering the 268HP that we have on tap.
However, I understand that one tank of fuel is far from a representative sample. I'm curious as to what mileage some of the rest of you are getting with your V6 powered 2007 Camry's.
The only thing I ask if you're going to post your mileage numbers, is please give as much additional info as you can, such as the current total miles on your car, grade of fuel used, and estimated percentage of city/highway driving.
Man, you guys are lucky, more power, a lot more power and better gas mileage than my 2002 V6. Toyota has done an excellent job here, 70 more horse power AND better gas mileage. That's incredible.
I may have a defective one then. My average from the first two tanks is 29.7 on combined city/hwy (2 hour roundtrip daily commute to Washington, DC).
I was expecting something closer (or worse) than my 1MZ (around 24 mpg). I suspect it will change over the longer term.
Yours is as defective as mine: I am getting about 31 mpg: 95% highway driving, mostly about 65 mph.
I am being gentle during break-in, I really am interested in this latest tank, which I will refill sometime in the next day or 2. I am hoping for 33 mpg. I have about 1500 miles on my XLE V6 which I got on the 8th (11 days ago). For such an efficient motor, though, it is also extremely powerful. My Camry is faster than my old Lexus LS400.
When I filled up this morning I calculated 23.2 MPG. The computer said 23.5. Only .3 mpg difference (or around 1.3%), well within normal tolerances as far as I'm concerned.
Based upon the early posts, the 2007 Camry combo of the 3.5l V6 and the 6 speed auto appear to be a real winner in regards to gas mileage (and power).
I Get 25 mpg in my V6, in LA traffic no less. That means about 70% stop and go. Not too bad i think.
I think your new car will probably get better milage when the engine loosens up and breaks in. Probably in 5,000 to 10,000 miles i would guess but who knows.
Filled up a second time. Total miles on car 750. Premium used just like last fill up. Mileage 26.8 via computer, 26.1 calculated. 40% highway, 60% city driving.
Third Fill up. 92 Octane Premium used. Total Miles on car 1150. Mileage on last tank, 25.8 mpg computer, 25.68 mpg calculated. 70% city driving, 30% Highway. Now that it's over 1000 miles, I'm really starting to drive it like I stole it. The mileage is still really good. The next tank I'm going to go back to 87 octane regular and see what happens to the mileage and power.
This car is surprisingly quick. I had a chance on the freeway today to floor it when traveling about 65 mph. It quickly downshifted a couple of gears and really pasted me back in my seat. The engine is so quiet when doing this that it is rather disconcerting - all you feel is the acceleration. Needless to say I was at 110 very quickly, and the car was smooth and quiet at this speed. Very very impressive. On top of that, this car is giving me similar mileage to the 2005 LE 4cyl that I owned last year.
Am looking at a 2007 V6 LE, as it's on the lot and can get a good deal. I was wondering about the gas mileage that V6 owners have experienced. Good information, and I think we will go with the V6 LE that is on the lot.
