Unhappy 2006 Camry alternator whine

The alternator in my 2006 Camry makes a whining noise when braking/decelerating. From inside the car the whining noise can only be heard on smooth pavement, with the radio off and with the ventilation fan off. I've read that Camry's and Sienna's are known for noisy alternators. Should I try to have the alternator replaced under warranty or is this 'normal'?

alternator whine by definition will be heard from your speakers, so if your radio is off, obviously this is not the case. you might be hearing something else.

I used a funnel to figure out what part of the engine area the whining noise was coming from, it's definitely from the alternator.

If I turn the radio and the headlights on the whininig gets louder - form what I read that means that it's the alternator...

not necessary, it could be something ells. When you turn no you radio and headlights or high beams it puts more of a strain on the engine because the alternator has to work herder...If the engine works harder then it could be making what ever is making the noise more noticeable.

errr how many miles?

timing belt could be worn out...or does the 06 cam use a chain?

Also if the whine is heard through your cabin speakers you have some grounding issues with your stereo and general electrical system that should be fixed.

the 2AZ-FE uses a chain...the 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE use a belt.
