Question 07 Camry Spare Tire ???

I think I read a post in the 07 Camry thread in the "News" section that stated the Canadian 07 Camry was coming with a full size spare. Is this true? I would not think that section of the car (trunk area) would be made totally different just for the Canadian cars to have a full size spare. So, my question is:

Has anybody taken the time to take a wheel and tire off of a US 07 Camry to see if it will by chance fit in the "hole" for the spare on a US car? Or, has anyone measured the two (closely) to see if it "appears" it will possibly fit? Thanks.

I assume the last column is XLE? Must be since I have a donut in my V6 XLE.

Its an option for all Camrys in the US. So you should be able to drop a spare in. There might be a spacer that you need to remove.

When I bought my 07 XLE (March 16) it was not an option. It was not listed on the Toyota web site or in any literature. Can anyone verify this?

hmm not sure about the 07 but my 1998 xle came with pretty much a full size steelie spare.
our 05 highlander comes with an identical alloy full size spare.

Too much weight if you ask me, but nice to be able to run long distances with. But then again...people with weaker upper body strength will struggle with it.

I've looked at the spare well in the Gen 6 and the space saver just fits the spot. I think a full size is too big for the well unless its exactly the same diameter as the space saver. A full size spare would definitely stick up in the trunk so the floor would be uneven.

I measured the trunk area (tire well) today. The tire diameter is around 26-26 1/2 inches. The tires on my XLE V6 measure about the same. I think that part will fit. However, it looks like the depth (up to the level of the trunk) is about 7 1/2 inches. This is where it is close. It is hard to measure the exact overall width of the tire and wheel while it is on the car and sitting on the ground. As close as I can tell it is 7 1/2 to 8 inches wide. I am going to take one of the wheels off this weekend and find out for sure.

incorrect. full size spare doesnt mean the trunk would be uneven. Mine is perfectly flat, and so are TONS of other vehicles with full size spares. The spare tire wheel well is simply DEEPER so it sticks down under the car more.

Yes, it appears it is the same "diameter" as the stock tires, just not as wide.

Hmmm. No "this thread is useless without pictures" smiley. Oh, well, let's shed some light on the matter! Here's the spare on my I4 XLE:

Eye-balling it with a tape measure, the spare doesn't appear to be quite as big in diameter as the "real" tire/wheel combination. Check out that "terraced" well, though -- maybe there's enough height in there for a full-size tire/wheel.

Here's the cover directly atop the spare, which holds a few jack tools underneath it:

Hmm, what's that yellow sticker say? Well, this:

1 inch reduced ground clearance? Yeah, that's about the difference between the two diameters -- this thing is a little smaller than "full size."

So, would a "full size" tire fit into that well? Man, I don't think so!! It would be a VERY tight fit if it did!

But.... Isn't this a whole lot better than the usual tiny little "donut" spare? I sure think so!

I've got more pictures, and some close-ups of that tire, but I'm late on my lunch hour, so I've got to run for now! Hope this helps!
