5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am about to buy a 2007 Camry LE. I am looking to get the leather package and the dealer is informing me that it is "after-market" leather, as he says that no Camry's come with leather from the factory, does anyone know if this is true? Also should the leather seats look like the Camry XLE seats?
Yep, just refer to the Camry brochure -- leather isn't an option for the CE and the LE. Standard on the XLE V6, optional on the XLE I4 and the SE.
The aftermarket leather kits tend to be very good, but I'd wonder if "fit" can be as good as the factory leather.
Frankly, what's the price difference between an XLE with leather and the LE you're looking at with a leather kit and installation? The XLE has quite a few very nice things worth considering -- much better back seat accomodations, including the reclining rear seats, the brace behind the rear seats for greater rigidity (of course, this is all instead of fold-down rear seats), the multi-function display, the arm rest that moves forward so you can actually use it, the better stereo, the dual/automatic climate control, the fake wood instead of the silver interior panels, the cover over the little cubby in the console, the auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a few other things.
So, you might give some thought to just bumping up to an XLE and getting the factory leather, if you can swing a few more bucks for the whole package....
Yes I was told that too. You have to find out who localy in your area that does it and see if they have a good track record.
You might want to see if heated seats are availble with that "upgrade". But then again you are in Texas...hehe Up here in Michigan you HAVE to have heated leather.

Nothing worse that cold leather on a cold Michigan morning... I've been there! Then again, the other side is a hot leather seat on a hot South Carolina afternoon leaving work. YIKES!!!
I think the dealer was refering to the fact that TOYOTA will install the leather, not a 3-rd party. Is this normal? I may close the deal today....
The leather is probably a "dealer installed option" not from the factory. but approved and sourced though Toyota but installed by the dealer's shop people.

Very unlikely that "Toyota" will be installing the leather.
Very unlikely that "your dealer" will be installing the leather.
An independent upholstery shop will probably install the leather. Probably "undoubtedly."
Perhaps the "leather seat kits" themselves will be OEM Toyota parts. That said, I remain extremely skeptical that the dealers have much access to any new parts for the 2007 Camry yet. My dealer only got the updated software for their "scan tool" in order to turn off my door-lock beeps just the other day, for instance.
Bottom line, MAKE THEM TELL YOU what the leather kit will be. MAKE THEM TELL YOU who will install it into your car. ONLY IF YOU'RE SATISFIED WITH THOSE ANSWERS should you do that deal.
I just had leather installed in my V6 Camry LE and it is awesome. A company in another town does it all the time for the Toyota dealership I bought my car from. It is of very high quality and I could not be happier. I will try to post pictures soon.
