5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am interested in hearing from other people who have had the toyota alarm installed in the 2007 camry as a dealer installed option.
As part of my agreement to purchase my 2007 I4 SE automatic (wife's car...) one condition was to install an "alarm with glass breakage sensor". They installed it one week after we picked up the car. I have found that because this is a new model, many things seem rushed, sport pedals missing, no rear heater ducts as stated in the brochure, here are my issues with the alarm:
Car no longer beeps when we lock/unlock the car with the keyless remote.
Alarm manual says that it should still "chirp".
The Glass sensor does not seem to work went though the tests in the alarm manual and nothing happens.
Since my car already had the keyless remote entry with immobilizer, they reused the existing security light and keys with intergrated remote buttons. I'm OK with this.
My wife really wants the remote beeps back. Does anyone know if this possible?
Does anyone know where the microphone could be installed?
Who else has had the dealer installed alarm put into their 2007 Camry?
About the rear heat, check under the seat. That's where most "rear heat" dutcs are located at.
If you're talking about rear vents for the A/C / heat system, then I don't know why yours are missing. My XLE has them. In the US, they only come on the XLE.

"read you manual..." good point, perhaps the technician set it to silent. I will do that.
Sorry I meant the rear vents for A/C / heat system on the Back of the centre console link in the XLE. I woas think that is what the brochure meant. All the XLEs in Canada have them too. I will check under seats. Looks like the SE does not have those vents in the centre console.

Thank for the help so far.
Ok I read the manual, says go to your dealer to disable the chirp. I hope they can re-enable the beep. I can't belive the grief (wife) I'm getting because of this beep....
I found the rear seat heating ducts, they are under the front seats, pointing to the rear.
Yes, the security is controlled by the original keyless entry keys.
The dealer is far and a PITA to to there. I don't think they installed the alarm correctly

I wanted to DISABLE the remote door lock/unlock beeps, and the deal is that the dealer has to hook up a "scan tool" (a handheld computer, basically) to your car and make that change. When I brought mine in a couple of weeks ago to have that done, they didn't have a scan tool loaded up with software new enough to even "talk" to my Camry -- they finally got that in this week and "unbeeped" me.
So, that's the deal for the lock/unlock beeps. Or, "report-back buzzer" as I believe it is referred to in the technical manuals.
Although.... Golly, to what extent do you think your dealer went to all of the trouble to hook up a scan tool just to undo your beeps? Seems remote to me. The bigger question might be "what did they have to tap into to get the alarm system to work with your door locks?" Perhaps it was something like unhooking the wires to the Camry beeps and hooking them up to your new alarm system -- and therefore the beeps are now within the alarm system, not the Camry.
So, just a little food for thought, and I hope it helps!
thoots, thank for the very informative post. Scan tool stuff makes sense. I hope you are wrong but I think you may be on to something; what did they do to tap into the alarm system? I going to the dealer this friday. Wish me luck!
I also noticed that it SEEMS to me that this car is so new, it was put out there by Toyota with very little support, i.e. scan tool software, spare parts, etc. The sales peson did not know the product at all, told my wife all kinds of things that were not true... for all i know the alarm that was installed may have been for another model I dunno, we will see.
UPDATE: I talked to the service manager; he said that they don't know why the chirp does not work. At first they said that the silent arming was normal and that to test the glass sensor, they would almost have to break my window. I insisted that they recheck their facts, removing (glass breakage) and audio indicators just did not make sense. Especially since they installed the sensor.
Finally the service manager came out and agreed with me, He said the technician followed the instructions and that he, the service manager will email his Toyota rep and see how can they fix the problem. He said perhaps this model is so new that there may be install problems. i.e. I'm the first sucker to get this done.
I had the glass breakage sensor in my 03XLE. There was small manual that came with it. It said to test if the sensor was working to take your car key and tap in the middle of one of the windows (front pass side I think). This should set off alarm (assuming it's armed). When they said to tap they meant a real hard tap. Of course not hard enough to break window. I had them show me and sure enough it went off. Don't know where the mic is. But there is as adjustment for sensitivity.
Update: Alarm finally works like my wife wants, it took 2 extra trips to the dealer and a few emails but I just can back today and the alarm imobilizer, beeps, doors etc. all work like they should and more inportantly the glass breakage sensor works. To test the GBS the technician used the back of a tire pressure guage.
The service manager said that it was working all along but I don't believe it. Before when the keys were removed the security light started flashing right away. Now the light stays on solid for 30 seconds then starts to flash. Just like the manul says it should.

I don't know of it will be the same, but in my Gen 4, to get the alarm to chirp, turn the key from the off pos. to on pos. 3 times and then press the horn once. hope this helps
