Canada Automatic Locking for 2007 Camry

Has anyone experienced any problems with the Automatic locks on the doors? The doors on my camry lock as soon as I move the shifter out of park. The owners manual indicates that I can get the doors to lock automatically at 20 km/hr. I have tried following the instructions in the manual to make this happen but without any success and was wondering if anyone else has the same problem.

Thanks

I had a written you a lengthy detailed message but my fucking computer erased it so here's a basic answer. I had the same problem and only after taking my car to a dealership we discovered that in order for me to program the auto-unlock function I wanted, I had to actually UNPROGRAM the function it was currently set to.

So for instance, I wanted my doors to automatically unlock ONLY after the drivers side door was opened. Before that my car was programmed for all doors to unlock after my cars gear was shifted into "Park". I kept doing the procedure to program the doors to unlock after the drivers door was opened but it wouldnt work for shit. Finally the tech who was helping me decided to see what would happen if he did the procedure for the auto-unlocking that my car was already programmed to do. When he did it, the doors locked and unlockec, indicating the car had been reprogrammed. When he did that, my car started to unlock exactly how I wanted it to. Try that and see if it works.

also try a shorter count than what the manuals says... for example instead of one mississippi, two mississippi... just go one, two, three, etc. I think there was a thread a while back mentioning this problem, and a shorter count solved it.

The count doesnt play too much into this equation. The guy that was helping me at the dealership was counting fairly slow and it worked.

Yup, the auto lock function is difficult to program. But once it's set up, no worries!

You must really be doing something very very wrong because its not hard at all. The only reason I couldnt do it myself was because I didnt realize I had to unprogram the current auto-lock to be able to program another auto-lock. In my 02 Camry I programmed the auto-lock function with no problem. You are either executing the steps way to slow or you arent understanding the directions and therefore not doing them properly.

And why did you make an appoitment just for this issue? I just took my car to the dealer when I had some free time and they found someone almost on the spot to help me out.

Did go in yesterday to the dealers but there was no one who could help me and the earliest I can go back is Friday. Will keep trying till then. Followed all the instructions to the T.

Currest status of the locks is

Doors Lock when shifted out of Park
Doors Unlock when shifted into Park.

Tried to un-program the first feature (Lock when out of Park), the manual says you hold down the lock button when the shifter is in park to Program or unprogram the feature. Tried many times with varying times and also turned the engine on instead of just putting the keyto the on position.

Hmmm, this is an "Oh, for crying out loud!" thing -- you should be able to do it. Just do this:

1. Get into car.
2. Close all doors.
3. Turn ignition to ON.
4. Press and HOLD the driver-side power door lock in the lock position for 5 seconds, then release.

DONE.

Again, take heed of the advice not to make it a long count -- no "one thousand and one, one thousand and two" -- just go "one two three four five" and let go.

It should work.

The manual says NOTHING about "unprogramming" whatever it's in before doing this.

C'mon, give this another try!

lunarmist is right...plus i did this myself the other day...heres exactly what i had to do...

REMEMBER, know what your scenario is before you do n e thing...i went back and fourth a few times turning the same thing on and off...

locking...

scenario: turn off "doors lock when shifted out of park"
got in car
locked all doors
turned the ignition to on position
within 10 seconds of doing that press LOCK (to the right no?) for SIX seconds and that is 1 mississippi 2 miss....blablabla the doors unlock

scenario: turn on "doors lock with speed increase"
in car
locked all doors
turned the ignition to on position
with my e-brake on i moved the shifter to N
within 10 seconds of doing that press LOCK (to the right no?) for SIX seconds and that is 1 mississippi 2 miss....blablabla the doors unlock

and its pretty much the same thing for unlocking...

scenario: turn off "doors unlock when shifted into park"
got in car
locked all doors
turned the ignition to on position
within 10 seconds of doing that press UNLOCK (to the left no?) for SIX seconds and that is 1 mississippi 2 miss....blablabla the doors unlock

scenario: turn on "doors unlock when driver opens door"
in car
locked all doors
turned the ignition to on position
with my e-brake on i moved the shifter to N
within 10 seconds of doing that press UNLOCK (to the left no?) for SIX seconds and that is 1 mississippi 2 miss....blablabla the doors unlock

but hey it could be different for everyone

OkeyDokey, but the bottom line is that we all should be able to do this ourselves, with relative ease!

Hehehe, most likely the dealer monkeys would just mess it up!
