WTF! 2007 Camry SE Only Giving Me 263.7 mi WITH Full Tank!
Yo, I know i'm not a car techy or anything but, I just filled up my tank for the FIRST time since getting my 07 Camry a month ago. I immediately set my trip meter to "0" miles. I wanted to see how far I could go until "E" and the red light indicating I need to fill up, came on.
So, since I've filled up i've done a little bit of highway driving, never going past 75 mph, and i've done mostly driving in the suburbs, usually between 50-60 mph on small highways and driving through town doing between 20-40 mph. I know, I know, going 60 mph consumes more fuel but I find it hard to drive slower. Lately, I've conscientiously been trying to drive 40-50 mph. I only did city driving which requires a lot of stop-and-go very minimally.
So what the hell is going on?! Where is this 22 city/34 hwy??? What should I do? Am I blowing things out of proportion or do you think my car has a serious problem? I don't know if its a problem with my car not reading my gas accurately or if its far more serious. But I shouldnt be getting only 268 miles on a full tank of regular gas. That is fuckin' crazy!
I dunno dude, I'm still on my first tank of gas with the '07... and my car only has 110 miles on it... with 3/4 of a tank left. You said you are using regular gas correct? It is recommended that the '07 Camry's use mid grade 87 or 89 octane.
How many gallons did you put in? Last year when I bought my 05 I4, I got 24MPG on my 1st tank, 28MPG on the 2nd, and 30MPG on the 3rd. I wouldn't overreact until another tank or two at least. Not to rub it in though, my 07 V6 got 28MPG on the 1st tank (over 400 miles)
I dont know how many gallons i put it. All I know is the tank had to be full because I topped it off and the gas pump automatically shutoff because it couldnt fill the tank any furthur. I just put $10 of gas in my car a little while ago @ $2.91/gallon. I am going to fill up again tomorrow and test it out again. And I thought regular gas was 89 octane. That;s what it is up here at least.

Its not full untill it comes out the hole and it spills on the floor . Yea ive had that happen ONCE to me, but hey i got the best gast mileage with that one haha........... and seriously man, look at how much gallons your putting in there, it can tell you alot about when you need to fill up next.
and by the way 263 miles per tank sucks ass, i get 300- 350 per tank and ive got a 96.

I get what you're saying but how do I know how many gallons to put in if I dont know whats already in there???
Easy, youve got an 18.5 gallon tank right, well if your at half a tank youve got approximatly 9 gallons left, and if your at 1 quarter of a tank youve got about 4-5 gallons left, also i know on mine when the gas light comes on that means i got 3 gallons left in reserve, so i need 15 gallons to fill my tank, and i just do the calc's and i put the right amount of gas in.
by the way ive got an 18.5 gallon tank too.

Regular in Colorado is 85 octane because of the altitude. 87 is mid-grade. 91 is premium.

My SE V6 gets about 270/tank on my daily commute (bumper to bumper 40 miles each way) and easily 350/tank if I find open highway. I would imagine your I-4 should be doing better....but there are many factors. Like how heavy your foot is on the accelerator. How often you speed off from a stop, etc....

A receipt will tell you exactly how much gas you put in . I think dealers fill up first free tank with regular (I only got 24.5 MPG). Since I fill up mine with premium, I constantly get 27.5 MPG with 60/40 (HW=55-75mph/Local=30-40mph), A/C on. Try to use premium see if it's better. If it's still around that number, I guess time to hit the dealer's help.
Premium or Regular gas should not make a difference. They are designed to be run on regular gas in the first place.
I would take it back in to the dealer and demand (nicely but firmly) they take a hard look at your problem. No way you should be getting that kind of mileage. I am getting around 31mpg with my I4 engine. I just had my first oil change and I expect it to get a little better now.
