Gen6 07 Camry LE aftermarket remote start

Now that I have my 2007 Camry LE with keyless entery I need to install a remote engine start before the cold Chicago winter arrives . Can I have some car shop install an add-on remote start only or do I have to install an alarm/remote start/etc. system and possibly just use only the remote engine start function from the new system ?
Did anybody install an after market remote engine start yet ?

Well, I have not installed one. But I can tell you I've seen Circuit City running special on remote engine start for $199 installed. I think it happens once a few weeks. Alarm was not mentioned so it should be optional.

I have heard that you need an additional part for key with circuit and you need to give up a key, e.g. valet key, for that.

07 Camry aftermarket remote start

They have the remote start bypass with a key and electronic ones that don't need the key :

http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/produ...4&cat=679&js=n

I found another site that has an electronic bypass for specific car brands including Toyota .
Hopefully before the Chicago winter starts somebody will know how to install one of these afermarket remote starts for my car .

Circuit City has the Python 1400XP for $200 installed. It will be more like $300 after they use the Toyota interface, etc.
The installer told me that they will need one of the original keys.Maybe the valet key will do.
Not sure if I should get this installed now or wait a few months until it gets colder and the installers have more expierience working on the 07 Camry.

Just make sure and ask if the aftermarket remote is compatible with your system, otherwise you'll have to use both remotes and they'll be fighting each other and so when you bring it in for service the morons working on it won't have a problem and keep calling you to tell them what to do to get the engine running. I could go on and on about it. Been there, Done that. Most aftermarket systems are better and have more features than the factory, but some of these bargain remotes are more trouble than their worth. Can I get an "AMEN"

I finally took the plunge - remote start

Circuit City - Python 871XP remote emgine start with alarm with feedback on the remote unit
$350 installed .Lifetime warranty on the unit itself.
This thing really works in my 07 Camry LE . Not only outside in a parking lot but I can start my car from inside a brick/metal building in downtown Chicago. In the same place my Toyota factory remote access stops working 4-5 feet from my car { ATMs,automatic sliding ors, etc.in area}.

Lights on the mulitcolored remote blink and sound :
1\when a signal is sent or a signal failed {different amount of beeps}
2\ when a door is open ,locked or the car started
3\if the car alarm sounds

I still need to use the Toyota key to remote open the trunk but I can live with that.

They took my valet key and installed it somewhere inside an extra part that was included in the total price above {they charged for the part and labor to install it }.

In my previous cars I had $200 units that failed after their 1 year warranty expired or didn't work unless I was close to the car {which defeats the purpose when it's freezing outside}.

Maybe Im wrong but can't you get the remote engine start as an accessory through Toyota? It may only be for the XLE but on Toyota.com in the acceries section it has the Remote Engine Start known as RES. I may be wrong, but that's what I saw......If that's the case I'd think it would be nicer to have their system since it's an accessory.

Toyota vs aftermarket remote start

The Toyota remote start is $550 . I paid $350 for mine but price is not the main reason I didn't go with the Toyota one . If you read my post , the Toyota remote entry on my car stops working at my place of employment - actually at both places were I park. I figured that their remote start would work the same way.
Of course I took a gamble on Python working in downtown Chicago but it does and I'm happy with my decision.
For those of you who didn't get the car yet - when ordering your remote engine start , make sure you know that you can end up with a dealer installed one or a factory installed one , so you need to be very specific when ordering it together with the car.

Cheaper remote engine start

I had $200 units installed on my previous cars . The first one died right after the 1 year warranty ran out . The second one worked but I had to start the car twice each time and it didn't work at all where I work at .

There is place I can go that does installs on the remote starter. They put a head unit and XM radio in my current vehicle with no problems. I was happy with them so I will go back to them for the remote start if I choose to get it. Installed will be just over $200. That is way more reasonable to me

I've never had a Viper alarm system in my vehicles. I've had Clifford and Crimestopper alarm systems. Both were very good. Word of mouth, says Viper is a great system. If I didn't already have the factory system in my car I'd check one out. Aftermarket systems are almost always better than factory ones. But remember:" You get what you pay for"
