5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
We just got 07 Camry with I4 engine. I opened up the hood and saw pretty ugly engine with no cover at the front of engine, like those in Hybrid ones. I've seen a couple pics of I4's engine bay with some kind of aluminum cover. I might have to go back to dealer and have them installed the cover if that the case. Can you guys with I4 07 camry post a pic of front area (engine area) for me?. Thanks
Talking about the Aluminum Colored Covers, thats only on the V6/Half the Hybrid.
THe I4's are hte black colordd covers with the red lettering. And half the hybrid.
I'll see if I can get you some pictures.
why would you want to cover up the engine? thats what the hood is for. its nice to see the various parts of the motor, plus you are making the car lighter without the extra weight of the cover!
Thanks for the pics. I think I'd better go to dealer soon.My car doesn't have the cover next to engine black plastic cover (look like the one in Hybrid which can see copper exhause connected to engine).
you are missing the exaust manifold upper shield. They absolutely should not give you any problem. As a matter of fact they should appologise for it not being there in the first place.
Let us know if they put the exhaust Manifold cover on for you without a problem. After looking under my hood, mine came without that cover as well. It seems strange that some would come with it and others wouldn't. Thanks.
That shield protects users from getting burned. But that alumunum shield gets pretty hot too. I had one on my old 94 V6. Got burned many times changing the oil filter, which is right below it.
Someone was taking their 20 minute break at the Kentucky plant when the shields were to be installed. They guessed no one would have noticed.
No really, go back to your dealer and check a similar one on display, then say, wow mines doesn't have the sheild, WTF! If they don't install on the spot, pull out your 10mm socket and say I'll take this one (joke).
I called Toyota and was told that the PZEV Camry's don't have the shield because the PZEV units have a different emissions system and don't need the heat shield.
