5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Any done it yet? I have a CE and I want to add Remote Keyless Entry. I plan on having someone install it for me. The Carmy is relatively new and I am not sure if it is different from earlier models in terms on keyless entry installation.
Is the trunk release a power device? I am thinking of a keyless entry that:
1. Unlocks the driver side first, then unlock all other doors
2. Honks when I press the lock button twice (to confirm from a distance)
3. Remote trunk release

Am I asking too much?
Nope, you're not asking too much. They itemize all the "options" though when you have it installed. You're probably looking at $200 or so.
I'm going to hold out as long as I can in hopes that Toyota offers a factory keyless entry add-on kit as I hate aftermarket. The parts manager at my local dealer spent 3 days on the phone with Toyota trying to iron out if it can be done and never got anything resolved. I'm hoping once they are able to sit down and start figuring out all the accessories it'll be offered. It's just too early yet, kinda like waiting on damn factory fogs to be offered.
I just came back from Circuit City. They have a special (I think it is nation wide) that have a Valet 712t Keyless Entry System installed for $80. The price is great (vs $200 quote in some local shops) so I have it done today.
3 Caveats:
1. To open all doors, I have to press Unlock 3 times (first to unlock the driver side, 2nd do nothing, 3rd to unlock all doors), instead of twice.
2. Locking does not turn the automatic daytime running light off (as mentioned in user menu)
3. I was told that my Camry CE does not have powered trunk release. So it requires physical wire to open the trunk which I declined.

Yes, it does. But I'm not sure if it is caused by the keyless entry or the illuminated entry""feature" of Camry. Which does it anyway if I unlock with my key.

Last question, do your parking lights flash with the lock and unlock or did they say it was optional? I've confirmed that this deal is also available in my area.

This is a bit tricky. The parking lights does flash after I stopped the engine and locked/unlock it. But it will no longer flash after a while. I'm not sure how long that "a while" is. Usually, when I'm returning to my Camry. It does not flash. I don't know why it is behaving like that.

Yup, a silenoid and relay would have to be installed.

Thats strange.
The parking lights are suppose to flash when you lock/unlock. Or arm/disarm with alarms.
Maybe you have a faulty unit and/or improper installation.

I'm afraid you are right. I only noticed it after I got home and try to use it again after some time. It appears that once the Camry went into "sleep mode", the parking light won't flash anymore. I'm going to go back and ask them to check it again.

Yes, I think the parking light flash is standard according to owner's guide and regardless when I use it. I'm going to go back next week and ask about it.
For the trunk popper. I think they mentioned $25 if the car has power trunk release and $40 if not. I want something simple. They told me my Camry does not have powered trunk release and need to run a wire to the trunk. So I declined. It is not something that important to me.

Cool, I now know what to expect. I love the trunk popper because the only time I get in the trunk is when my damned hands are full of crap.
